I Have Heat From My SmartStove!

Finally finished up my install yesterday (Thurs) and jus in time for a 34 degree Alabama evening. Got my granite hearth pad down and did all the install myself. I was pleased in myself and yet both me and my son are leery of a wood burning device because we never had one. He is convinced I am gonna burn down the house, lol.

I ran the stove in both Auto mode and Manual mode. I am not 100% pleased with the ignition system and did have one smoke-out while running in Manual mode startup. The igniter did not ignite like it was spose to and the burn pot overfilled before it ignited and I got lots of smoke... coming out the cleanout, but I got it cleared up and shut it down. Restarted it in Auto mode and had better success with ignition like it was spose to. So... I am just starting the stove in Auto mode then switching over to Manual after I get fire if need be. I ran it on M1 all night and it got a bit too toasty in the L/R, so I will have to make some adjustments.

I have it running Auto right now on 68 but I would like to run the fan on high to better push the heat into the rest of my 4 room boxy Bungalow. Any way to over ride the fan setting on the SmartStove? Overall I am pleased and the Pennington hardwood pellets are burning very nicely so far.

Definitely need some photos. Too many posts about new stoves recently that don't have pics.

Looked through your previous posts - you bought the big Englander, right? That's a lot of stove, youre not going to be cold this winter! Congrats on making the move to pellet heat I think you'll like it.
 
As we have said for 10 years here, pics or it didn't happen. >>

Enjoy your stove. As far as pellets, glad those are working for you but there are better pellets out there. I actually enjoy searching for a better pellet and prices. I know, it's weird.
 
Really limited to what WalMart, Home Depot or Tractor Supply offers for pellets. They are not popular in the South like they are in colder climates so we are stuck with what few brands are offered. Have a few fireplace stores in Birmingham... they may truck in more popular brands of pellets but probably at a nice premium. The Penningtons are hardwood and burn quite nicely.

Yes... it is the 2200 sq/ft SmartStove. I gotta get a few thru-wall fans to help distribution.
 
hi Nate,

check the position of the igniter sleeve in relation to the back of the burn pot. make sure its not set back a bit from the pot as this can cause slow starting.
easy way to check is o literally with the pot sitting in its position without lifting the front tilt the pot forward. the back of the pot should not lift but just a tiny bit if at all. if it lifts as much as 1/4 inch the igniter sleeve would need to be adjusted forward. pretty simple to do as there is a collar with setscrew (allen head) that sets the depth, loosen the setscrew and slide the sleeve forward until it just comes in contact with the pot then retighten it. this should have the unit starting in 4 to 5 minutes from pressing the on button.

Nate, check your Home Depot ... the ones north of the line (in Canada) have been carrying LaCrete softwood pellets. Not sure if that is chain-wide or just here.

This is what I did Mike. I read some posts about slow/late burning so I took the entire igniter assembly off and found a bit of metal still left where the breather hole was punched... cleared that off then slid the assembly snug against the burnpot with it in place and tightened the set-screw down. It has not been cool enough to burn since then so will report back. I believe that was the problem tho... jus a tad pulled out from optimum.
 
From my understanding on the igniters (may be wrong but know I'll get corrected==c) the hot air moving past the igniter is what generates the burn. If the air flow was thrown off by the tab of metal, it would not be getting the same volume of hot air to the pellets that it should ... slower ignite with more pellets piling on. Keep us posted...

probably a region by region thing. cheaper to transport pellets made closer
With the Alabama reference, used Huntsville as store location for HD, they appear to carry Stove Chow and Fireside. Having never had the opportunity to use either, no recommendationso_O.
 
Finally had a cool night. Fired her up this AM on Auto and she ignited like a champ. So... problem solved. She has cycled through a off and back on... no problem at all reigniting. Thanks all. will snap some pics when I can remember to get my camera from the office.

Is that the thermocouple wire going out the window ? That suppose to be at the floor . Could cause problems .Manual says.
 
Jus wrapped around a tie-back on my picture window beside the stove. When you have cats/dogs in the house... the words 'on the floor' do not apply unless you want to be ordering a new thermo every week. 'Ain't Nobody Got Time For That'
