Touchscreen for the new harmon

Man, you Harman guys are a rough group. I also was a mechanic for many years and even though I wouldn't have an issue with the knobs, my wife would. I applaud Harman for taking a step forward.

As much as I do not like technology running my life I can see a use for some of it, BUT .......... As mentioned I am fine with knobs and switches. It really boils down to personal preference these days. I am sure the novelty would wear off too. After all it is all about the heat pumped out.

Wonder how much a replacement touch screen costs? I am sure they are not cheap when they whack it off in you for a semi archaic control board and such. Luxury is nice but it comes with a cost.

How much is this new Absolute? Sure the touch screen is tech savvy and cool but that screen likely is not even warm to the touch. If you need some big heating horse power just get the P68 and don't look back. I do see a benefit of a programable schedule but how much is that really worth?

For a touch screen's defense I am a contractor and very rough on mobile phones. I usually trashed one per year on average and opposed the I phones but have to admit they have lasted and held up better than any other cell phone I've ever owned. Kinda like an old Timex watch.

Pushing buttons and staying warm are two very different things. I am not knocking the Absolute. I haven't even looked at one nor touched one. No need for it here. But I am very warm.

I fail to see the need to add such complication to what should be a simple device that's purpose is to heat your house.

It's bad enough that these stoves have gotten so much delicate electronics built in, and now a touch screen, ahh PASS.

The programming is a huge plus use it all the time on my stove.Touch screen technology is advanced far enough that I'm sure it would be many years before it failed.

I'm with Snowy on this one. The last thing I want in my pellet stove is anything digital. I've worked with computers for 40 years, and I know a hostile environment when I see one.

And maybe we should go back to starting our cars with crank handles and not having heat or wipers....

That's why we got a wireless remote thermostat when we got our P43. Set for 65 during weekdays, ramps up to 70 an hour before we get home, kicks down to 66 at night, back up to 70 an hr before we get up, down to 65 we we leave for work.

With carpet built up static I've messed up a computer by touching the keyboard and a guitar amplifier when I picked up the cord going to the amp.

If it can send updates to my phone..piceless....but unsure if this does.

Not being that guy on the block that has to have the latest/greatest [IE My refridge alerts me we are low on milk,,jesus h... don't we have enough interuptions in life every day?
I think I would wait a few seasons and see what developes..
as said, in the end it's all about the heat and Not so much how u dial it in..

Can't say it any better than Snowy Rivers. I hope they leave well enough alone with the P series. Just another thing to break, and likely an expensive fix at that.

Get the Skytech thermostat. It will do everything you want and more for about $4K less......

The Kedel boilers have always had touch screens. An industrial touch screen is resistive, not capacitive. Which means it registers pressure and can be used with gloves on. They can only register 1 point of touch at a time and no gestures.

I think it is a good idea, change is often good, but not first generation of a product. .

The information it offers, the dialed in control, all in one place. Speaking of generations, I am pretty sure this is a generational thing if you know what I mean...

I'm all for pushing the envelope on products, otherwise things stagnate. In my opinion, a better way to go about it would be to have manual (traditional Harman controls) on the unit, but then add a toggle for use the dials, or with a tablet, and you use their supplied tablet (either mounted or not), or you download an App and use your own tablet which most of us already have anyways...this would be my preferred method. Download an app, sync it to your stove, and away you go.

Also, just looking at their GUI for their controls, not very clean and professionally finished in my opinion. Looks like a bad windows app from 10 years ago.
