UI purchased a Breckwell Pellet Stove SPC50 in June 2015 online. In October, I fired it up. Much to my dismay, there was not a gasket installed in the door, the fuel indicator was not working and the auger was making a very loud noise - pushing the pellets into the pot so quickly that the pellets were spilling over and not burning in the pot. Called the company that I bought the stove from; they said that since the stove was installed and not in the box, they were not responsible to repair not take it back. Hmmm - how am I supposed to know that a stove is not working until after installation? Call Breckwell, they suggested, which I did. Breckwell replaced the fuel indicator, sent a gasket and sent a new auger. I wish the story ended there, but it doesn't - the motor stopped working and the auger that Breckwell sent was for the wrong model. Breckwell then sent a new motor and another auger. The 3rd auger they sent is still not the correct size and the new motor has stopped working. The new auger pulverizes the pellets into dust and causes a blockage, thus the pellets are not able to be fed into the pot. So far, replaced missing gasket, replaced new fuel indicator, replaced motor, replaced 3 augers and the stove still does not work properly. The repair man shakes his head at this badly put together stove. This is a lemon and neither the company that sold us the stove nor Breckwell will take responsibility for a faulty product. I am at a quandary as to what to do about this situation.

Wow... What did Breckwell have to say about the dealer's responsibilities? Care to share the dealer name so others can avoid this situation? Have you confirmed parts # against manual?

Lemon laws in your state? Small claims court naming both of them?

Yes, thanks for the suggestions. Am looking into the Lemon Laws and small claims court. Have one last call into Breckwell and the company that sold us the stove. If there is no satisfaction by tomorrow, will gladly reveal the name of the company.

It doesn't bode well that the company that made the stove can't even send you the proper parts for that particular stove. Good luck, I hope things work out for you. Don't stop until things are put right.

what a shame best of luck getting it straightened out

Seems to be a doggy dog world these days. Honesty is a thing of the past and companies do not stand behind their products. Pathetic. I am laid back but have realized you have to be an a--hole to get some things done. Otherwise they simply do not listen. Good Luck and stay on it.

It si sad but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. At times that wheel has to lock up a catch on fire too.

That SPC50 must be a new model. I saw it on the Breckwell site but when I clicked on parts they didn't show the stove. I went to my favorite pellet stove parts site (Mountain View) and they didn't have the stove listed either. If you received a manual does it list part numbers for the items you need?

Good luck

The manual doesn't actually show much. I've looked at a lot of stove manuals before I bought mine this year checking out maintannance/cleaning and all I looked at had very detailed parts list with an exploded view of the stove. Although it does have a parts list there's no way it's complete.

The OP is having problems with auger & auger motor ... both are listed on the chart. Hoping Owen will see the thread and drop in;)

Edit ... wrong thread that needs Owen's attention!

I have purchased this stove and having lots of problems. Please tell me someone had had luck with this stove. My dealer didn't seem to understand it. No one around me will work on it because it's not a typical pellet stove. Must people say took ditch it, but I may have to go to court to get my money back. Really stressed about this.

What sorts of problems? Where did you buy it? No dealer/company support?

The part is a CE017 that is the correct auger motor. Although the issue might not be the motor. They (Breckwell) removed a plate that was on the 207 and now the pellets will fall behind the flight of the auger and they will push back and crush to saw dust. Of you get a small metal plate....say 3 by 3 and RTV it in at the bottom of the hopper it will solve this issue. PM me I have a sheet on it I can email you. If it is still under warranty call 800.750.2723(USSC) and ask them to send a repairman. Ask for claims....email me I'll give you particulars on it

You may want to start a new thread about your stove..

The bottom feed auger that pushes pellets up is a very different design. See pic below.
Reminds me of the old Pellet Master Stoves except this is enamaled cast iron.

the dealer/ installer is probably the main issue. He didn't understand how the stove worked. He vented it incorrectly. Went 30" up and straight out. Not the 8-10' that breckwell requires. Not the stove doesn't burn well and leaks smoke. I've also had some issues with the auger, which I suppose he fixed at some point. Not happy it all with the installer. A real hack. My real problem is that there is no tech around me that knows this stove. Many think that the idea of a natural draft stove is faulty, or just plain impossible. Can someone explain natural draft to me to?

I took a better look at the manual ... your venting must clear the highest peak on your house by 2' for the natural draft to work properly. What size venting did he use 4" or 6"?

Did the installer hook up an OAK (outside air kit)? That may be part of the problem if he didn't...

I'm a bit confused by the manual ... the wiring diagram shows a combustion blower and convection blower like a standard pellet stove but the exploded drawing of the stove components only show 2 small air fans (hopper cooling fans?).

Is this the Breckwell version of Nu-Tec Upland 207 stove that requires natural draft ?? it's made to replace a wood stove per say..Nu-Tec was selling online and I considered them when I was shopping for a stove.

Yes it is. Apparently pellet techs in southern NH don't believe in it.
The venting on this unit NEEDS to be done as if it was a wood stove. The 2/10/3 rule applies. It needs to be 2 feet higher than anything within 10 feet. And a minimum of 3 feet high from the point it Penetrates the roof. It can be either 4 or 6 inch pipe (by code) but 6 inch is preferred. It is not a mechanical draft. It is natural draft.

Hello Owen...I think you helped me with my Upland several years ago...My stove has been great for the last 4 winters..I do run mine with my brick chimney in the center of the house and I use a 4" pellet stove pipe...my chimney runs up through the middle of my house...it is about 35 feel high...no issues with it..great stove...I run it 24-7 from Nov-March...I love the heat output...I do have the older Upland 207 model...in Almond..

I have this stove my is the Upland 207...bought is 4 years ago..it is the same as yours....it's been a great stove for 4 years...I see the Owen mentioned the Breckwell took a plate out..this might be the problem your having..my stove has the larger hopper in it.....Breckwell did change the hopper size when they took over the stove.....could be why they took the plate out. ..???... I run mine up my main brick chimney in the house...works great no draft issues for 4 years..I run it 24-7 during the fall and winter months. I've read other issue with the stove...???..did Breckwell mess it up...I do know you should vent it like a wood stove unit....It needs a real good draft to burn right.I have 4" pipe that I hooked up for it..rememeber it's a radiant heating stove...it has no fans in it to blow warm air out of it..the outside body heats your area..

The hopper size was changed by Breckwell....was this the reason for the plate issue...??...I have then larger hopper on my Upland..no jams at all...

Owen, would definitely like info on this plate to add if it would help with jams.

Know this is an old thread but figured I'd try :)

Thanks!

Old thread but I have this stove and hate it. I have posted many times that it is inherently dangerous and the pellet hopper can catch on fire. If the auger stops for any reason the fire WILL BURN BACK into the pellet hopper. This has happened to me twice.

I can't get the auger to feed without jamming and either destroying the feed motor or twisting the motor shaft in the auger hole that it mounts in.

Breckwell will not give me any relief or my money back as I requested.

This stove is not only a lemon it is DANGEROUS. If you insist on using it NEVER leave it unattended. The safety mechanisms will not prevent burn back or a hopper fire if the auger quits turning.
