There is usually a fair amount of craigslist ads for free wood pick up mostly is the suburbs. Buddy and I stopped cutting from the woods and started scrounging on CL cause its normally in good rounds and almost curbside as i mentioned in previous posts. Got a good load of red oak and poplar today and split it up already. There was lots left might have to go again and refill tomorrow, the red is beautiful

Love it! Those are my two favorite woods to burn. I have several cords stacked out back and drying for two years from now. The poplars and red oaks grow like weeds in our territory. I wish someone in my area was just trying to get rid of some!

I'm itching to go on a wood scouting adventure soon. With oil prices so low wood is once again being dumped/given away.

The roadsides are looking like they did in the late 1990s again with low oil and low scrap prices. Wood and junk are once again being tossed away.

Ive been burning poplar (cottonwood ) and Red oak all season. When the temps dip it leans more toward the oak. But they are a great mix together.
It could be the mix for me too because of abundance.
It is really good that people leave wood out like that instead of dumping it in landfills. I tried it once with Black locust and I couldnt lift the rounds. If I had my contractor trailer at the time I could have rolled them up planks. I couldnt even lift them off the ground.

That is one of the nice benefits of having a warmer than usual winter and low oil prices many people don't want to deal with the hassle of processing firewood. For the rest of us we will take full advantage of it. I can't wait till this spring already have people looking to get rid of trees. Nice grab hope you get the rest.

Nice grab there! Even here, with a large amount of people who prefer to burn wood we're starting to see free wood showing up on CL. Just nabbed a short bed load of ash today.
