Bulk Pellets

Kind of worried about the storage thing though, will it hurt them to be in a unheated pole barn sitting in a bin?
I am in Ohio, so I appear to be out of the loop. But, I' want to see one of these bins first. Might not be too handy to transfer to stove location.

At Lowes in Midland, Mi They were $3.14 per bag of Penningtons. The Penningtons were a lot better then the other local one I purchased for $3.89 at Miejers. Check for a Lowes by you.
The closest Lowes would be Gaylord and thats over 80 miles from my house, so not too cost effective
I have not read or heard where storing pellets in a bin would hurt. I would like to do this also. In your unheated pole barn should not be an issue. To be sure figure how much you need for the heating season and try not to have to many left over for the muggy summer weather. My only concern would be the quality of the pellets before you order to many. My first ton was very dusty (fines) although they did burn alright.
I guess I could always be "forced" to put a wood stove in the barn and keep it warm out there..... wink wink

One other thing to consider is we have to load our pellet insert twice a day morning and night, our bagged pellets are in the basement which is a convenience.

I load our stove twice a day also. I keep about 5 days worth in the house and the rest is in the 40# bags in the barn. The pellets I do keep in the house I keep in one of the large plastic tubs. The wife didnt like the look of stacked bags in the house.
They have been advertising pellets around here at $165 ton all fall. I don't know what kind but they are made in Michigan. I'm in West Mi. Up noth at interlocken they have Bio bricks at 190 ton, on ebay.

I store mine in my garage in a wooden 4x4x3' shipping crate that I 'borrowed' from work, I like it because it takes up little space and also functions as my mixing bin because I burn a corn/pellet mix. I use five gallon buckets to go from the garage to the stove in the basement. The garage is unheated and the floor is usually wet throughout the winter here from the cars, the bin is evelated and I haven't had a problem. The crate doubles for the boating/camping supply storage bin during the summer, so that's good to. Note that I do buy bagged pellets and bulk corn so those need to be moved into the bin, the corn cleaner blows the corn in, the pellets obviously need to poured in bag by bag. If I recall correctly, total cubic foot of the bin times .8 gives you bushels of corn, I'm sure someone can provide a pellet calc if your interested in building something.

I wish they did this in my area.....it would be very nice to have a truck deliver a whole seasons worth of pellets in bulk....then I could simply build an auger system or buy a corn vac to dipense them into the house....or just get lazy and carry them in 5 gal buckets.
