Just wanted to share this picture with you folks. It's the cover of an informative booklet published in 1940 I picked up. Coal, written by Mary K. Chapin is a book about mining and the uses of coal back in the day.

We use a Harman dual fuel hot air furnace for our house and try to burn coal when it's below 20 degrees out. Even though we're in Maine we haven't been able to burn much yet this year. We have a Coal Chubby in the living room but only burn wood in it as coal will drive you outside. And we have a Harman coal stove with a blower in our shop we fire up only once in a while. If we burn it for more than an hour we usually switch from wood to coal on that. We go through three tons of coal a year and two to three cord of wood -- about half cordwood and half pallet stock.

Jim and Leon, On a yearly basis i sell 150-200 cords of seasoned firewood here in southern ct. As crazy as it sounds, I prefer to burn coal in my D.S. boiler.
