This is not a drill. 20's (F) tonight forcasted, - 10 to -15 more degrees here in the Hollow. Teens Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Let the stove run cold today, cleaned out ash, cleaned the boost baffle, and brought in firewood.

Murphy helped, so he says :)

The "uglies" will be burned first.

Regular splits are for over nights, along with rounds that are saved for that purpose.
 
Nice. I wish I had that much wood settled in inside I'm having to reload my porch today in -10c. Yuck.
 
Loaded the porch wood box yesterday. Light snow today, kinda pretty. Temps are much milder at 34F.
 
I loaded up the back porch sat to get ready for the next couple of cold days but by Tuesday here it's supposed to start warming up. The weather is showing high forties by Friday Saturday.
 
Well, Dix, I would guess that sticking splits in the vents qualifies as a 'quick drying' method - and it seems to be outside of the clearance to combustibles requirements. :)

Temps dropping here also. We have 3 four foot wood racks on our covered from porch so the wood is just steps away from being inside. We had to buy a cord late this year because I didn't think we had enough seasoned wood. So far we haven't even gone through one cord......... that just might be changing soon. :(

Nothing like what I saw when I first met a recent transplant from Texas a while back. He had a tall stack of damp firewood drying lincoln log style right on top of his Lopi. Yes, he got the lecture and soon afterward started stacking the following season's wood top covered and on palettes.

We have a winner :) I'm actually amazed at how quick it seasons in the vents :)

Ordering more firewood as I type, Shari, not taking any chances.
 
Re - Loaded the porch yesterday , (it holds about 3 weeks worth of wood), supposed to finally get cold, sub zero, by tomorrow am, we'll see.

I broke into the white oak stash for this week:cool: Burned some yesterday and today. That stuff is a little harder to get going but it burns so much better and the coals are awesome! Anyway, the front porch loaded up and ready to go!
 
Brought in two yard trailer loads tonight, one pine, one oak. Supposed to be in the 20s tonight, 20'tomorrow, and single digits tomorrow night.
 
This little cold spell should be interesting.

Warm up right after.
 
My basement holds a ton of wood. Brought some in early December and have more than enough to get through to the weekend. Keeping the wood inside that long also helps to dry it out a bit. Brought in some maple on veterans day that was marginal. It's light as a feather now, and burning as I type.

At least with this little bit of cold will be able to burn some nice seasoned hardwood.
 
Loading for bear aye @Dix? Supposed to get down to 14 tomorrow night. That sounds like real winter, WTH?

Nice Dix. I'm drying some myself like that in front of the stove. It was nice and dry before I forgot to put the tarp back on top of the stack and was caught uncovered during a recent rain. I'd like to build a couple of racks on either side of the fireplace that we can use to store like you are.
 
Supposed to get down to 6F tonight with a high of 14F tomorrow. I filled the inside rack and the 2 round racks on the porch so I'm good for a week or 2 . Warming up to the 40's F wed. thru friday.
 
Well, got down to 6F here last night, loaded the furnace with oak at 10:00, woke up at 6:30 to a 74degree house and the blower still cycling, reloaded oak on a hot bed of coals, still going now.
 
Nice. Gotta love oak for heat.
 
That, and a furnace that will take the better part of a wheelbarrow load in one shot.

I used to bring up loads of wood close to the house. I finally just built a shed across the driveway. I just drag in an armload a day now!
Here's my view.

Tomorrow should see the end of it. Forgot to open the connecting door between the houses levels, a wee bit chilly when I got home tonight @ 5 PM, after banking down both stoves at 6:45 AM ..... 58F. The laundry detergent was sluggish coming out of the bottle as I started a load of laundry between tending both stoves :mad:

Wind is dying down. That's a good thing. frozen water buckets in the barn this morning :confused:
 
I almost lost the battle this morning. 4 degrees F. This morning and I forgot to plug in the heat tape for the waterlines! I too have a lean-to close to the house. Roughly three milk crates a day get brought in to feed the Nc-30..
