Don't forget the extension has to be sealed to the original hopper. Is there a gasket on the extension and the lid ??
There is a rubber seal, but I found I still had leaks so used RTV to complete the seal. The OP may have better luck than I did though.

The extension does come with a gasket already install on the bottom but I have some thin foam weatherstripping or some RTV I can use if it's not tight enough.

Just to be safe I put some of the foam tape on the stove's hopper then put the extension on. The foam fills in all the ridges on the rubber gasket on the extension as it gets squished, sealed it nice and tight.
Do think the lid locking they use with the knob handle (my stove's hopper lid has the lever type) is a bit overkill, feels like I'm going to lift the stove up trying to open it cause it holds so tight. Maybe after use it loosens up a bit.

I find that too with the hopper lid. I hold onto the hopper when opening the lid just to make sure <>
