Englander 25 pdv needs more combustion air

Hi guys , is there any way to increase the combustion air to the burn pot? It burns great on setting up to about 4 or 5 but when I turn it up on colder days it acts like it could use more air to the pot. When it's turned up I get a buildup of unturned pellets and smoke outside. Any ideas
 
You do have the OAK hooked up? The only suggestion I have seen is to close the restrictor plate a bit or lower feed rate while keeping air up. Won't get any more BTUs out of those pellets if they are not burning well...

Yes oak is hooked up and unrestricted. I'm going to try blocking the lower burn pot holes and see if that helps. Will the bottom 3 buttons do anything.

They just regulate on levels 1 & 2 from my understanding. Could check your numbers just to make sure they are right. Also I recall seeing something about mode a, b, c, d ... do a search using the box top right and you will find lots of info. Likely more than you need or want to know:rolleyes:

Thanks I have already changed to the C mode that's why I figured I might need to adjust the bottom 3
 
I could be wrong but i remember someone saying that the lower 3 buttons do effect the heat ranges throughout on the newer stoves..

Nature's choice, and they burn great on the lower settings . it's just when I want to crank it up , it seems to not have enough air moving
 
I only ask because i know after trying many diff pellets that they all burn diff in my pdv. Mine loves softwood, Hardwood seems to have a heavier ash and builds up more. But at the same time, i found a hardwood that burns just as good as the softies i like. But each time i try a new pellet i find i can run the stove differently..and i have been trying many diff pellets to find what the stove likes best.
Some pellets burn up faster than others. And with the 25's burn pots i personally think its all about find the right pellet
 
I have the old style pot... but this pic was taken just over 20 hours of burning on setting 5. I have other pellets that i cant ignore for more than a few hours or else the pot over fills.

And i should add that im currently in mode D as well for that photo.

Wow that's a clean pot. Mine has never had that little of ash. Mine actually gets full on a lower setting. I wonder what the heck I'm doing wrong???

Like i said... pellets are not all the same.. i bet i have tried 15-20 diff brands and have found 3 that burn good in my stove.. the rest either fill the pot with half burnt pellets.. fill the pot with ash. Or dont produce enough heat to even talk about..

Any recommendations?
 
Listening to the guys on here you should be able to get your hands on the good stuff in your area. Seems the most saught after dont make it far enough north to me.
But i found orfords to burn very nice, a softwood.
Logik-e's where the hardwoods i found that burn great.
LG premiums are doing ok so far.. another softwood. But to soon to say just yet.

Best i can say is just try a few bags of a few diff brands as 2 identical stoves may not burn the same pellet the same way.

Only on single auger stoves. Full burn pot is normal for the PDV and PDVC. Once a day burn pot cleaning and you're good to go.
 
agreed, the full burn pot is normal for these 2 models especially on the higher settings. On mine, when i run 6 and higher i have to clean the pot out every few hrs. at 5 I can clean the pot once a day and have it be alright
