I recently got a Quadrafire 4100 insert. It works well and we like it so far. However, I have a problem with the automatic combustion control feature when trying to get things started. When I follow the instructions; push ACC knob in the all the way and then pull it out to start the ACC control, nothing happens to the fire. I can hear the timer start but I'm not able to get a fire started this way and it doesn't have any effect on a fire that is already burning. I do get a good boost however when I push the ACC lever in all the way and leave it there to open the rear air. This is sufficient to get the fire started and a burning fire definitely increases in intensity when I do this. I have been using the rear air to get fires started which is ok but it doesn't have the timer mechanism that the front control has which would be nice.
When I look through the little grates on the right side I can see a door way in the back that opens when I push the lever forward, presumably this is the rear air entry. When I pull the lever orward to start the timer that door closes, I assume something else opens up? Should I be able to see something open (hard to see the front through the grates)?
Anyway, to me the front ACC thing just doesn't work. Could it have been installed incorrectly?
thanks
