I recently got a Quadrafire 4100 insert. It works well and we like it so far. However, I have a problem with the automatic combustion control feature when trying to get things started. When I follow the instructions; push ACC knob in the all the way and then pull it out to start the ACC control, nothing happens to the fire. I can hear the timer start but I'm not able to get a fire started this way and it doesn't have any effect on a fire that is already burning. I do get a good boost however when I push the ACC lever in all the way and leave it there to open the rear air. This is sufficient to get the fire started and a burning fire definitely increases in intensity when I do this. I have been using the rear air to get fires started which is ok but it doesn't have the timer mechanism that the front control has which would be nice.

When I look through the little grates on the right side I can see a door way in the back that opens when I push the lever forward, presumably this is the rear air entry. When I pull the lever orward to start the timer that door closes, I assume something else opens up? Should I be able to see something open (hard to see the front through the grates)?

Anyway, to me the front ACC thing just doesn't work. Could it have been installed incorrectly?

thanks

Any Quadra-Fire owners out there that can help with this? I still have not been able to resolve this problem

Pellet stove? This is the wrong forum.

I have a 3100 acc. It opens a door like the rear one your seeing, but in the front part of the stove. It lets extra air in through the "dog house" in the front bottom of the stove. It will then slowly close with the timer somwhere aroung 20-25 mins.

I have one of these as well. Been about 3 years now. I've learned to start every fire without latching the door for the first five minutes. I asked my installer about this in the beginning and he said I needed to use more kindling and newspaper. I still pull out the ACC lever and can here the timer as well but am not sure it has the effect it's intended to. Once the fire is going, it runs great and puts out some serious heat. It's just the start up that has a learning curve.

I would try pushing the acc control back to start the timer and start your fire and leave it there but monitor it closely to see if it closes automatically in 20-30 minutes. I had the acc 4300 freestanding and this would work on that model, not 100 percent sure on the insert

With the 4100i, you're supposed to push the lever in all the way and then out all the way to fully engage the timer. Pushing it in all the way and leaving it there opens a separate vent in the back of the firebox. This does a great job of getting the fire going but isn't driven by the timer, so you need to manually pull it back out if things get going too hot.
