What did you buy? Post some decent close up pictures of your fireplace and some dimensions (W/D/H and angles). If you just need to shave the brick facing it may be doable. If you're going to be cutting out firebrick I would move on.

I will try to get some pics. Does an insert actually need to be surrounded by a fireplace? The other place I could put this is my barn but there is no fireplace. I also picked up some triple wall stovepipe with it.

Inserts need a liner, not pipe. The manual will tell you the minimum insert distance. If you can't get it in there at that distance then you need a different insert or modify the firefox ( which may or may not be easy). Otherwise you need a smaller insert. Don't ignore the clearances.

yes otherwise it would be an unlisted stove and would need a highly insulated hearth (I don't remember the r value off hand) And 36" of clearance to combustibles all around it.

Man that is a small fireplace, looks like a coal fireplace. If that is a masonry fireplace I think your only solution is to sell that insert and buy a freestanding rear vented stove to put in FRONT of that fireplace. You will probably need to tear out the hearth and redo it in front so you have the height to install the stove in front with the liner vented out the back.
Of course to do this properly you are looking at spending some $$, I would not try and shortcut this based on getting a deal.

Ok so in terms of putting it in my barn, I cannot use the triple layered chimney pipe? It must be a liner?
Also can I just build a "fireplace" around it out of cinder block?

I believe the issue isn't whether stove pipe is adequate for the insert, but rather how they are attached.
Yes you could do that but by the time you pour a footer and hearth and then build a firebox ect you could have just bought a stove
