Hi!

I needed to add 3 feet to my existing chimney pipe because of a draft issue, so I went to the closest hardware store and bought a Supervent 6x36 chimney pipe. After clearing the 1/4 of ice that blanketed the roof, I attached the pipe to my chimney, but it did not lock. I thought chimney pipes were universal. I was wrong. My existing pipe says: Metalbestos and I think the model is 6t 36. There isn't a dash between the the 6t and the 36.
Based on my searches I think you can use SureTemp and UltraTemp with my existing pipe, but I would like to get the community's advice because if the pipe I order does not lock, sending back a 3ft chimney pipe will cost a pretty penny.

Thank you very much.

P.S Keep Warm!

I don't know of any chimney pipe that is "universal," and Metalbestos, which I have, will only connect to Metalbestos. There may be some brands which will connect to another brand, I am not aware of them. I do wish it were otherwise. I am not a professional, so someone around here who is may know of something I do not.

Do a search for Metalbestos on the forum. There is a another thread here somewhere that talks about which current Selkirk line is interchangeable with Metalbestos.

6t 36 looks to be Sure Temp pipe. If that is what is currently used in the chimney system that is what I would get.
