My wife and I got home this evening after a dinner out. The living room was at 68 degrees F. The stove was cold. I put a short round north/south against the far wall, (loading from the side in my Oslo). I crumpled up a bunch of paper, layed some North/South 2x4 splits on it, then some East/West 2x4 splits on that, then some 2 inch black cherry on top of that, then a round of locust on that. I lit it, gave it about 15 minutes, opened 'er up, and added 2 small rounds of who knows what and a 3 x 6 inch split of poplar. I let her cruise, after another 30 minutes the stove top was at 650 degrees F. and the thermostat read 73. I dampered down to half way and let 'er burn.

It's now 10 pm, 82 degrees F. in the living room, I raked the coals and placed, East/West, a 5 inch square of white oak against the back, 2 two inch rounds of locust in the front, a round of locust on top the oak in the back, and about a 5 inch square of black cherry in the front on top the 2 small rounds of locust. Gonna let 'er fire up then step 'er down to about a quarter open on the Oslo draft control.

Goodnight :)

I once went from cold to about 850 in 10 minutes with pallet wood. :eek:hh: Can't really recommend that technique though.
