Anyone have any experience with the Chopper 1 splitting axe? I don't think they are made anymore, but a long time ago I think someone told me that they really work. Still some available on ebay.

I used one for years. You can still get parts for them online. Google Chopper 1. They're nice but temperamental with the little spring loaded wedges on them. The Fiskars is a simple splitting tool with no moving parts. I still have mine in the wood shed, repaired a few times. I mostly use a hydraulic now, but I split probably 50 cords with a Chopper1.

Woah....I remember splitting with that about 20 years ago when I was a kid! That brings back memories. It sure split well for me back all those years ago but I was probably about 13 or 14 at the time

I use one now, alongside an X-27. It has a bit more weight behind it than the X-27. The original handle broke on mine and I replaced it with a 36" hickory handle. I like it for the larger, knotty pieces.
The moving parts haven't been a problem for me, but there is something a little irksome about the sound of metal clanging when chopping wood.

Also, it really does seem to send the pieces flying.

yup, used one years ago. think i saw one at the hardware store the other day. think it was in a true value store. yeah if the springs broke, it became a dull axe. worked pretty good.

A friend of mine had two and gave me one. I've used it for about eight years and it works well. So far I have not needed parts. The levers do seem to help.

I have one, looks pretty next to the splitter..............way to much work for me.
