Hey guys. I am looking to get a good working but not so expensive IR thermometer for my either H2100 or I3100L regency model insert (bought it from the former owner of the house and the instruction manual says its one of them). See my profile pic for an actual pic of the unit. I have a condar termometer on the insert, but I think it is off, so trying to figure out by how much, so I can adjust burns accordingly.

Can anyone provide a recommendation and also where best to take the actual reading once I get the IR thermometer? Thanks so much!

I have a Fluke so I can't help you with a cheaper option but I did see a few at Lowes last week when I was there. FWIW I checked the cheapo bi metal spring flue temp gauge with it Saturday and it was dead on at 495 degrees. I've always heard the temp should be taken on the flue pipe 18" away from the stove.

I wish somebody would make a simple remote bulb thermostat for the inserts. Pure mechanical, no batteries or digital displays. I'm forced to shine the laser on my collar where it leaves the stove to get a temp reading.

Thanks for this. With my insert, do you know where the best place is to be taking the actual reading once I get the IR, as being new to this I am not sure where I am supposed to read it for the most accurate measurement?

You are limited by what you can see but the flue temp is what you're looking at.

Doesn't matter at that point where the "best place" is.
