I would never buy without knowing what brand I'm getting,I would rent one of their trucks for $19.00 and haul the brand I want myself.
Unfortunately some of us can't even make it home in the time they alot you (45 minutes). So that truck (which incidentally around here is $25) would end up costing $75 to rent. And if they add on mileage charge, plus the addition of filling the tank, that is an easy $125-150 right there. (assuming what my round trip would be - 70 miles). I rented a van for $30 for a day. It cost me $100 by the time all was said and done.

Yeah, if you aren't too far from the BBS, then the cost may be manageable, but for me, it would be cheaper to pay them the $65 delivery charge.

hmm my HD is $ 19.00 for 75 mins. I guess the rental services differ from store to store,

The key is to buy tonnage and have it delivered all at once under one delivery charge. But then who wants to gamble on 4 tons and they might be the crap pellets or a crap shoot of mixed brands.

Honestly, I didn't even ask if I could pick the brand....so you might be able to. I really like these Big Heat pellets so far...they burn hotter than anything I have tried thus far so I would definitely ask on my next delivery if they have any in stock.

that's good to hear Marina, I have never burned the big heats but it's one of the brands a local landscape company sells.

That's why I had two tons delivered. I will probably not use anymore than 1 more ton before I put the serenity to bed for the summer. So, I will have a ton to go into the season next year. So far this year I have burned not quite two tons since September. I know we had a fairly mild season...so I am thinking I will probably need 4 tons during a colder winter. Unfortunately I can't store more than 60 bags at a time...so to have 4 tons delivered would mean I would have to leave them on the pallets in the front yard...which is not good. I need a bigger storage spot....

They are really light in color and more like pieces than long pellets like the gs or clean energy. I was a little nervous about putting them in the stove because I was worried about clogging the auger...but they burn nice and they lit right up with no problems.

should have no problems with the short pellets in the Serenity, I was burning greenways in the Serenity and they are also very short pellets and I never had a problem,You will find though that you will chew through the short pellets faster.

I am only a mile from my closest HD but no way could I unload 50 bags in 45 mins....I would pass out and die....LMAO.

Putting the stove away for the summer sounds good ! But here the third snow of winter has begun, we are under a blizzard warning till 7 PM, someplace between 6 and 14" of snow and winds up to 60 MPH predicted. This should be cute. Come On March !

A couple things from my pov. 1 Marina lives in a history district. This might tell me that she appreciates the old times, which then we used to have some trust in others. I applaud that. 2 she runs a Castle Serenity. When I first got mine, i went around and bought a couple of each brand I could find that were at places I would buy from. They all burnt right close to the same. That could be a Sereinty characteristic? Some friends have to buy only one specific brand or their stove will not operate. Could be several variables, but my Serenitys sure seem tolerant. And 3, Personally, I would rather ask Marina to keep us updated on how the pellets do and if any issues arise, post them here to be solved. This way we all can grow and learn.

Well Rich so far so good, thus far it's colder than expected so it's not that heavy gloppy stuff that takes down limbs and power lines. With the wind it's not even sticking to limbs and power lines so far. And really I believe it was more windy over night than now. So we shall see. In fact the wind is 25 out of the NNE. Maybe this sucker is going to track a little bit further out to sea than originally thought up this way. What ever, tomorrow is Tues the 9th either way, awesome !

We are supposed to get some snow here tomorrow...but like I said I bought the snowblower so, it will never snow enough for me to need it....that's my luck and honestly I am fine with never using it.

I will be the official pellet tester...:)

I feel like its Christmas morning when I see a new brand of pellets I haven't tried....LOL

And you are right, I am very old fashioned...sometimes I think I was born 100 years too late...I know my word is my bond...and I appreciate when I see that trait in others.

Well you have it if you need it.

A Pastor friend of mine off Cape 50 miles or so got one this year after last years crazy winter. And they have needed it 4 times so far. Really the wife runs it, she likes it I guess. She is a peanut of a woman, I saw video, Awesome ! But now, just last week, he has suffered a heart attack so it's good she knows how to use it. This is the beginning of some longer medical activity with him, the heart is doing very well but they found another rather odd issue going on in him while he was there. So she will be the snow blowing queen for a while it sounds like.

It should'nt have been any bigger than one of these.

If it was, I'd request they not use that large of one again. Not so much for fence repair, but they can break sidewalks and yard irrigation systems.
That is a piggy back fork truck and they can move some stuff. Lowe's here has them behind their big flat beds and one pushed 7 tons into a barn bay all at once. There is a concrete floor where they slide easier. These are used a lot to deliver shingles too which also weigh quite a bit.

You have room for 4 tons. Right behind the other two. Pellets can be left outside if they are wrapped and covered. Might work on putting a gate there and such. Of course tons of pellets piled up in the yard might be a bit redneck chic'......... Or hill billy. Gotta stay warm! You could hide the tonnage behind a yard car up on cinder blocks too.

Seems to me you should be able to pick what brand you want delivered, you are the customer, or lets just say I am the customer. If I call up the Cement Company who Stocks hard and soft Energex and who sells LG granules, I can tell them which I want and that is what they deliver. If I go to the store they will ask what brand I want and or soft or hard. If I go to HD I can pick up between two brands what they have out on the floor. But if I have them delivered to my house I have no choice ? A service that I pay for I might add. You know they will send what ever they wish and that probably is what they have most in stock. Inventory control at the expense of my desired brand. Right now HD locally has FSU and ThermaGlo incidentally. And to me, of those two, the FSU are superior by a fair margin, yet I couldn't order those to be delivered ? I have to wait to see what is under the wrapper ? It almost seems illegal., It seems good that they don't do that they don't do the same thing with refrigerators.
very well put......

Not bad suggestions, but she is in a historic district of her village - I'm guessing they won't allow anything like that (pallets of pellets, or yard car ) to stay in her yard for any length of time (counting in days)

TSC here did something similar during pre-buy. They wanted you to pay for the tons you wanted but wouldn't say which brand they were getting in. That has bitten them hard. They are sitting on many tons and I saw many bags of exploding pellets or skids with busted bags and saw dust everywhere.

Glad I didn't fall for their "we don't know what we are getting" gimmick. They are going to get stuck with a bunch of fiber wood energy junk. I probably wouldn't be interested if they were almost free. Too many suppliers played the screw customers game and luckily it has screwed them.

I hope they learn something. Pellets are not gold and gold is pretty much worthless to me anyhow.....

I am sure someone has already called or taken pictures of the one I have sitting out there now...LOL

I had some buildings in a historic district so I am familiar with the regs. They can be a PITA. It is good to a degree but can be ridiculous at the same time. Had to get approvals for anything and everything but then some guido hill billy down the street would get away with whatever.

After awhile I learned how to beat them at their own game and use the "historically correct" clause to my benefit. I'm for retaining the buildings integrity but I also do not see these clowns pushing the issues to the extremes driving Model T's to the office either.
