My neighbor has offered me his wood pile, but it's been open for two years, exposed to the rain.

Should I say "no thanks," or could I rehabilitate it by keeping it dry for many months?
 
Go and look at it if it is solid take it . It will dry
If it a mound of compost leave it unless you want it
for your garden

My stays out in the weather 3 years before it goes to the shed.

Gotta see if what's there is solid.
 
Many people leave their stacks exposed to the rain for many years.
 
Take a look at it for sure. Might be worth your while. Worst case you have a nice bon fire together.
 
As said above just check it out. My piles are outside until about a month before I burn it. I have wood from 2011 2012 that I'm just burning now, dry and hard as a rock. Can never hurt to look worse case is its garbage and you guys burn it outside.
 
My stacks are often out for two or three years uncovered. If the stacks are not off the ground you may have some punky wood at the base.
 
I've been using little pieces to get things going that are 3-4 years old and sat out in the rain, sleet, and snow the whole time. They are still solid. I'd go take a look at it.
 
Definitely worth a trip to have a look see. I rarely turn down free wood. But I am a hoarder......LOL
