Okanagan platinum any good?

Sounds like a safe bet going with the platinums. I will try one of my 5 bags this weekend to see how they stack up against the blazers.
Just went and bought a ton of platinums and I noticed the top bags that were exposed to the sun the parts that the sun hit aka the clear middle part turned like a bright reddish orange. Kinda weird never seen anything like it before. But the rest of the bag is fine. :/
I bought 2 tons of Okie Platinums in late August. Not cheap $675 delivered and in the Garage. I will burn Oil and save the Okies for the deep freeze. Burned a Bag tonight, low 30s for initial fire up. Don't feel so bad about spending up now. Great Heat, low Ash, no Clunkers! Around here ( Northwest Ct. ) I have never seen 2/3rds of Pellets discussed on this Forum!

Wondering why it's a $100 more a ton in the Northeast. Good pellet, great price. Too bad New England didn't have its own trees to harvest for pellets.
I work for a hardware store and get them at cost so that's probably the big diffrence because I know the prestos are going for 279 at HD I just hope my stove likes the okies since I haven't found them anywhere else to test run some.

That could be the reason!
On my 3rd bag of the platinums and honestly don't feel any heat diffrence compared to the presto logs so if there's that much price diffrence I'd go for the cheaper pellets as far as ash goes doesn't really bother me I can handle scooping out once a week
I bought a couple of tons of the Platinum along with three tons of the Okanagan Douglas Firs. So far the Platinums are head and shoulders above any hardwood pellet I've tried. The closest hardwood pellet was the Barefoot. Granted, I'm using a unique stove (Wiseway) but from the standpoint of heat, ash and the cleaning, I'm happy with my purchase.
Where did you get your Okanagan's? I bought mine from CT Pellets in Torrington in June.

which pellets are you talking about? Okanigan Firs?
1st time in 3 yrs here I ever heard anyone say those douglas fir softwoods sux.....
I just burned a few bag here and still want to know where the ash went cause I barely saw any..

I think you have to look at the user name (DOLLARBILL) and precisely what he said at the start of the post ("For the money and this is the key") to understand why he wasn't impressed. I get the feeling the cost of the Okanagan Doug Firs was more the issue than how they performed. Who knows, I could be wrong.

Just did my 6 bag tests and find this years' OK Platinums are even lower ash than 2013's.
Clean stove, ran several bags through, brushed down sides & burn pot, dump ash bin into a gallon jug.
Checked the temp on the door above the glass.
2013: 52 fluid oz of ash, 12hrs/bag, 380degF
2014: 68 fluid oz of ash, 12hrs/bag, 375degF (tester's note, these sat 1yr outside (covered) before testing)
2015: 40 fluid oz of ash, 11.75hrs/bag, 360degF
Yes that's measured in volume since that's what I empty out of the bin. Sorry I did not weigh it all.
The temps always fluctuate, as do the burn times.
Shows pretty significant % difference year/year.
I'll try to update a summary but this thread was up so figured I'd add what I knew.

I picked up a ton of the platinum Oakies yesterday. I'm into my third bag, I run 24/7. I was burning Lignetics prior to these and let me begin with this, I really like Lignetics. They are low ash, great heat and burn clean. These Oakies however, are a tad hotter, even cleaner burning and the ash, well I'm astonished, hardly anything! My new favorite pellet. I can only imagine what sorcery would happen when using the Oakie Douglas Firs!

I just finished a ton of Lignetics and although very good heat, I was a bit dissapointed as they we're ashier than I exspected.[White bag/green lettering].
also burned Quite a few Okie platinums.. very good heat /low ash...
burned a few bags this week of Okie Firs again...
Zilch for Ash. also turned my feed rate down from 4 to 2/half when I came downstairs in the AM and the thermostat was almost 80 degrees..
Thems is HOT
Right up there with Blazers.....

jusst threw in my second bag of okie firs I had left over from last year's loose bags purchase. they burn a little hotter than my blazers however they smell terrible. not sure if that is because they are a year old or not but my blazers are df and do not smell as pungent as the okanagan . they kind of smell like cow chit. it wouldn't stop me from buying them since they throw serious heat, however the wife didn't like the smell and keeps telling me i cant buy them again lol. anyone else that has burnt them could probably weigh in. I have burnt the platinums as well and liked those a lot, they smelled better to. loving my blazers overall and happy with my purchase as folks may know already.

Okie firs DO NOT SMELL.. for that mater, no pellets should smell as u described....cow chit... something else going on there in your stove....maybe got wet or damp?

it's not the stove it was when I opened the bag and was dumping them in the hopper they smelled terrible from the time I opened the bag. they burnt great. the smell lingered for a bit after pouring them in (maybe the dust in the air?)when the stove got going I couldn't smell them anymore. maybe it was that batch from last year.

could be. I definately want to buy a few more bags just to see, it maybe that they were over a year old? Anyway they were burning very hot. I was running the stove at a medium setting and couldn't even put my hand on top, similar to the Blazers
