hey guys. I just brought home a truck load of sassafras and was wondering what you all thought of it. I have never burned it before so not quite familiar with how well it burns

Sassafras in my experience burns hot, fast and very bright. I went through a lot last season and used it most often when i needed to get the stove going from coals. It splits very easily and has a very nice scent to it. I have some splits in my wood shed now and enjoy loading them in the stove when i find them.

So probably not an over night burner.

I burn about a 1/2 cord per season as said burns HOT and fast. Have some in the stove right now. One thing be sure and keep the door closed as it tends to crackle and pop a lot. Don't want sparks flying all over.

Probably does a decent job in the shoulder seasons than. Thanks guys.

Sassafras is low in density, so it must be low in BTUs. I have burned some, but usually mixed with other woods so I can't comment on it, except to say it smells nice.

Witches wood. As others have said, it burns fast and pops a lot.

Just like others have said a quick wood for quick heat. Great for warmer days or shoulder season. Also great to mix in with other hard woods helps get them going.

Sassafras is delicious smoking meat. Ideally use some green twigs fresh off the tree. Used to throw green sassafras twigs on the bbq all the time when I lived in sasdafras country.

It has its own smell which I think is really nice, but not everyone likes it.

I love sassafras, almost as much as pine.

While I think pine has a little more heat, both start very easily, burn fast, and are easy to split.

Unlike pine, I use sassafras to smoke meat, usually ribs. It's great to get the real smoking meat wood started, namely hickory and to get the smoker up to temp quickly.

Great wood, I wish I had more of it, like pine.

Haven't found any down yet. I'm curious. Word around these parts is it burns so hot it helps clean creosote out of the stovepipe.

I like it. Burns hot and fast. Good to use when starting fires or mixed with other woods. Nice aroma.
