When I install my new boiler after this heating season I want to do some minor modifications to my Storage piping. I plan on removing my 4-way mixing valve and plumbing the piping so that the bottom of the storage is plumbed to the bottom of my buffer tank and the Top of storage to the top of the buffer tank. I will also plumb in another circ that is opposite to the existing one.. ( if you click on the link for my public display you can view a page on how my storage is plumbed).

Just wondering if anyone else has opposed circs on their storage piping or if anyone can tell me if I will run into any issues doing it this way or if the circs should be a certain distance apart etc.. I will be removing the checks out of each circ.

Cheers

I have a system that can deliver from solar to tanks or remove from tanks to heating system thru the same 5x12x50 Heat exchanger. I have two taco 0015 circulators mounted face to face, and a double throw relay to make sure only one at a time runs (I didn't do the control work) they've run flawlessly for 4 years now.
of course remove the checks, but you already knew that.

I have done it also without any problems.

It does get weird if you use ECM circs, the unpowered one lights up and flashes it's display. Maybe it turns into a generator? If you plan on using ECM, you may want to run that by the manufacturer.

Thanx Bob and Karl. I'm planning on running them both variable speed with my Vesta Controller. I'm hopeing to get some stratification in the storage tanks, I have zero currently.

Huff, you may need to take a look at your CHARGE/RECOVERY strategy in order to achieve better stratification. Your storage seems to have a lot of mixing going on.

Hi Don, I think your mostly right but I also think there is a problem with the piping configuration . If you have any ideas or suggestions for the CHARGE/RECOVERY strategy I would be more than happy to try them out. It would be nice to get some stratification in storage.

Heres my rule set. http://96.54.66.117/
