End of Season?

We pretty much go through March trading out 60 for 80 and vice versa. We get tired of being hot and trade for being chilly a day or two, then back. Not ideal, but still worth the savings over propane for me. I've got some poplar to try this month that will hopefully light quick and burn well without throwing too much heat.

if it is below 65 outside, our house is around 55, so we will keep it going for a while. March and April we are good for some good snow-storms, so I will probably clean everything and find a better home for my wood around july

I shut it down when mother nature says it's time. Last year I burned some in April. This year, I may not burn again. We shall see.

I hope to get my heatmax installed and at least a couple breakin fires before the shoulder season. Then I burn in the zc fireplace just to take the nip off if need be!

I'm thinking maybe 1 more week and then real short fires to take the chill out. Mostly Pine from here on out..

Likely the occasional fire from here on through. Typically, if it's sunny in March with temps in the 40-60's our house stays warm. I'll fire the stove once at around 8pm to keep it warm through the night when temps dip into the 30's. Other than that, I feel like we are heading to done for the year as well.

Well, since up here we get 9 months of winter and three months of poor dog-sledding weather, I burn until my wood runs out. That's usually around the end of March but I bought a little more this year so maybe the end of April?

Really didnt get out of shoulder season much this winter. I will have to restock on smalls and kindling more than wood this year.
Sitting on 4 cord of dry oak and 12 cord of 1 year old css oak /ash/elm mix.
Oh and fire starters....

The season ends when the boss says she isn't cold anymore. 24/7 usually ends during March. Spring shoulder season runs into April. Still have 3/4 of a cord of three year oak, 4+ cords of 2 year oak and a ton of 1 year and shoulder season stuff.

I am with KaptJaq as long as mama is warm we burn. We may burn a little more than most but mama wants a fire, I burn. Sometimes we still lite one at night and/or in the mourning in May. I still have about 1/2 cord of ash-cherry-elm-hard maple if needed and about 1 cord of soft maple if needed. Then if that isn't enough I have a rack [2 1/2+ cord] of soft maple and 2 racks of oak [5+ cord] that can be used if needed, if not next year.

I'll probably burn till my lovely wife isn't cold at night. It is not bad to have small little fires just to take the chill out of the house, but if it is above 60 the house stays very warm just on its own. Kinda just have to take it day by day. Last year I still had the occasional small fire into May. If it wasn't for cleaning the stove out probably would of had a few in June as cold and rainy as it was last year.

Never can tell in north east Mississippi, this year was mild looks like March 1st might be shutdown day. Some years we get snow in March and early April. One thing is for sure, we will never have a fire in May, unless it's to heat DHW[emoji1]

Been warm weather the last few days, & we have only been burning at night to keep the chill out. The wifey still gets cold at night. But come morning we just shuffle the coals around until the automatic blower goes off. Once it gets above 55 degrees, the stove doesn't draft well unless you have the fire raging, and when it dies down, the smoke drifts back-drafts into the house...
Maybe another 6 weeks and we will be done for the year...

Not quite yet. Although the day time highs are looking like a roller coaster over the next week or so, the overnight lows are still cold enough to light light one up.

The woodstove gets "shut down" when I'm no longer cold . . . one year I had a fire going in it a day or two before (or after . . . I forget which) the 4th of July. Most years however I figure on the last fire being sometime in April or early May at the latest.

I switch over to mini split when night time temps get into the mid twenties. My solar hot water system sometimes decides it. I need day time temps to get up to around 50 degrees to heat up my hot water exclusively on solar so I may run the wood boiler just to get a tank of really hot water to blend with the solar heated water. I really don't do anything in the off season so there is no seasonal shut down. I expect that I may regret filling my bulkhead with wood recently as in order to store wood in the wind I pull my stair treads and need to move the wood to put the treads back in.

Not yet for me here in PA. I typically run it until Mid April. Or whenever mother nature decides it is time.

Like most of the others it'll depend on the wife. If she's still chilled then I'll get a fire going, at least at night to take a chill out of the air. Not sure how much all day burning is left for this winter, but since it's only early March I won't rule out another cold blast before winter gives way.
