You want the bigger stove. I heat a well insulated ranch (1000sq feet upstairs, 1000sq feet downstairs) with a 2.3 cuft stove. I wish I had a larger stove but it certainly heats the house very well (from the basement as well). But I wish I had something I only had to load twice a day and got things a bit hotter.

Again, thank you. The next model up is only .55 cubic feet larger and dimension wise it can be loaded both ways. Can also accept a 20" split, 17" on the smaller model. That is a big plus. Question is, is .55 cubic feet going to put out that much more heat? Those dimensions sound a lot more user friendly.
Hope I'm not boring anyone or dragging this out. When I do go to get the stove I would like to have more information, use wise in general, about them than what the manufacturer books state.

I went from a 1.7 insert that had to be loaded sideways, to a 2.3 insert that I load front to back. The new one is much better.

Not even a question- go with larger stove. Osburns are great choices too, great value for money spent.
