The stat either will have a utility and premium pellet settings or possibly a softwood setting and I thought a hardwood setting. We just upgraded the stat on our showroom so I would have to look.

The rumble is usually from too much air getting into the stove. Check the ash-door gasket and seal. Also check the hopper seal and all other gasketed seals.

Was is the exhaust blower or convection blower making noise?

Unfortunately it seems to be a common problem. If it persists the dealer should replace it under warranty. Its possible it was not seated correctly at the factory and loosening the bolts and the resetting them might fix it. When a dealer now calls Quad for support they recently added a special extension for Mt Vernon AE questions. I think this shows their dedication to resolving issues as quickly as possible. I have faith they have a few key people specially trained for that unit answering those calls.

Did you figure out the rumbling noise also?

Was it a rumbling that sounded like a helicopter in the distance?
Like jtp said it is probably getting air from where it shouldn't be or too much.
I could always tell when the kids put pellets in the hopper cause it would make that noise, the lid wouldn't be latched all the way :shut:
The flames would kinda flutter to the noise too.... nice show but not too safe....

Same here, same occasional rumble. Mostly fixed by ensuring that the ash door is closed all the way. Mine only rumbles for a second or two if the stove is on maxx and she's really making tons of heat. I was told that the noise is air rushing into the stove. My stove almost never goes in hugh maxxx so this is a non problem at this point.

Also, the rumble was worse with pellets that are smaller .. my theory is that more pellet matter is getting dropped and so more air is needed to burn it. A technician suggested going to utility grade pellets but my New England Wood pellets solved this. In 1.5 months I'll be tapping a new pellet brand so we'll see how that goes.

Have your dealers put in the air restricter plate behind ash pan if not already there.
