Well to start off im currently using a non gasification wood boiler. It works well but im going through alot of wood so im converting over to coal. The model im looking at is rated at 108k for coal. First is i know its a good boiler and plan burning wood only on mild days but most of the time coal. So any opinions would be appreciated. Also sizing, i have no idea what the current boiler is rated. Its tied into a airhandler with a water coil. The heatpump i have is a 4 ton. Im thinking it will be ok. House is a log cabin built in 87 probably heating about 1600sqft. Will this be big enough?

Feeling the Heat
If you are interested in going to coal why not take a look at a coal stoker boiler? The best part Is that it runs itself for days at a time with out needing to tend to it. Build yourself a nice coal bin with an auger. 30 Mbtu per ton.
The issue i have with a stoker is it would run 24/7 which i dont want. Plus im getting this boiler dirt cheap. Future plans are to move the boiler to a garage. But for now i just dont like having any kind of fire burning while no one is home.
I had a Buderus in my out building where my EKO 60 is now. They are well built cast iron units ideal for burning nut size anthracite coal. I burned wood in it and it performed well but it works best with coal. I'd go for it but just put it where you permanently want it, they are small but heavy.
Yes it is heavy. I got it into my basement. Im in the process now of redoing all the seals. The manual online says to burn lump 1 but everything i see on fourms says to burn nut?
The manual for the one I had said nut size. Buy a few bags and try it before buying in bulk if that's your intent.
Im going off what buderus says on their site for a g201. Mine dindnt come with a manual. I bought 2 bags so where see how it goes. I plan on installing it tomorrow
got it installed and working well. however the weather has turned warmer and now to warm to burn coal. however ive already noticed a huge increase in efficiency compared to my wood boiler. only time will tell. seems to put out at least the same btu as my other boiler. the other boiler has no ratings listed on it.
