That's because it's the right price point.
I'd call it a tolerable price, they went as low as they had to go, and no more, to get them to move.. These are not really premium grade pellets, they burn and make heat but ash is plentiful. For the record North American blend makes a bit more heat but more ash than GS. that's the result of my two day comparison burning each at $3.98 a bag. NA also leaves more residue to scrape off the pot. Not that it's a huge issue in the Harman , just passing on the info for the ash/deposit aficionados.

Edit: since cleaning the stove and fully purged of Green Supreme now, not getting any deposits on the burn pot with North American.

they could sell Stove chows and Nations choice all year at 199. and I prob still wouldn't buy them.
maybe few bags for shoulder season but waaay too much ash to deal with 50 Bags worth..

My HD pellets are all crumbled up with more saw dust than I have ever seen because they store them out in the elements. I'm still burning; the only issue I have is that the fines don't easily sink into the auger. The pellets are fireside.

Amen. I switched back to all Hamer's this year and it's been great. Other than dumping in more pellets all I do is vacuum the stoves out (1-2 minutes) once per week and a bit more thorough cleaning every 4-6 weeks. I did do a good midseason vent cleaning that the Santa Fe needed (32 or so feet vertical 4") but the MVAE did not (7' of 3" out and up). Burning cheaper pellets required about twice the effort. Maybe when I retire, but not now... A ways to go!

Ashy pellets or not I just sweep the ash into the ash pan weekly and every couple of weeks clean out the trap under the burn pot. The ash pan is big enough to go a month when I do a full cleaning. The big difference between ashy and low ash is having to scrape off the pot periodically or not. i use a two inch paint brush to sweep down the inside of the stove either way and either sweep ash that is 2 inches deep or less than one inch basically. It's not stuck to anything either way.

I do the same with the brush..
only thing different is I have 1 of those Stainless steel cleaning wads[scrubby's] they use in commercial kitchens and I use that to scrape residue from the heat exchanger.

Nice !!

Same here, I use a paint brush for the heat exchanger. It's not difficult to remove. It's better than the tool provided by harman. To be safe, I also use a particle mask so that I'm not breathing in too much dust.

179! thats just wacky. if your stove can handle them, stock up. my home depot briefly went down to 199, but now are back up to 259. 199 was even better with their flat rate shipping. 65.00 got 10 tons to my house. thats $6.50 to deliver a ton :)

edit: i just looked again and they are back down to 199. looks like they are flip flopping on the price. i wonder if anyone bought them yesterday at 259
How'd you like the Stove Chow? I think you'd be able to give a good idea since you bought pretty much the entire store LOL!!

stove chow has always been high on my list since i first tried them a few years ago (pdvc). the heat is better than green supremes. Some say these are an ashy pellet but for me that does not matter. Every sunday i clean my stove. LBT & a good vacuum takes 10 minutes. so it doesnt really matter if i suck out 1 cup or 4 of ash i guess because i'd be doing it on sunday anyway.

my experience is a bit limited because i've never tried the super expensive brands some people on here rave about. I just cant see spending that much on pellets when most bbs brands get the job done in my particular setup/stove.
so far i've tried fireside ultra, stove chow, GS, nations choice, hamers hot ones, uncle jeds cold remedy, and a bizarre pellet called Bio-Energie that came in 30 lb bags. actually they were measured in kilograms. I remember i had to look it up to convert to lbs. I think they were from italy. I dont even remember how i came across them but they burned ok. my wife liked the 30 lbs bags but i didnt. for me it just meant i needed to carry 2 to fill the stove vs one.

I wish i had room for the entire store! i'd still be buying them up. the entire garage is taken. the girl i ordered from at hd was like *how* many?? are you sure? I said yep, i'll fit em!

turn the fan knob to stove mode and put the switch on Manual. .. won't feed pellets but it will put the exhaust on and suck up the dust while you clean

Or turn it to off, open the firebox door, and turn the feed knob to test. If at least one of the stove doors isn't open, then it will feed pellets. If either door is open, only the fans will go. If the stove is still somewhat warm, then you will get residual heat blowing into the house while drawing disturbed ash out the OAK.

I think it might be time for me to make next years purchases.

Say you burn 5T. And you can get that for $1000.
Or you wait until September, and pay $249/T. That's $1,245.
Where can you put $1000, and make $245 with it in 6 months?

20% return on investment. I like your thinking.

You covered everything in your post, except for everything.

Still $199.00 in Nassau County, Long Island, NY

I wonder if I show them the Ohio website on my phone will they match the $179.00/Ton? Then subtract .MIL 10%, then buy a discounted gift card and get another 10% off... This will be about $145.00/Ton Holy Crap! I am too tempted (drool from both sides of my mouth).

I may buy another ton just to re-stock what I used this year... I already purchased 4.5 ton and so far, only used a little over 1 ton!

A discounted Home Depot gift card? Please explain/share how to get such a thing. I'll find room for another ton.

Sometimes people buy things from home depot and for one reason or another can only get a refund via store credit (aka gift card). They have nothing else to buy at home depot ( i wish someday i need nothing from HD lol) so...

now they are stuck with this gift card they cannot use. they sell the gift card for less than its worth figuring any money is worth more to them than the gift card. you can get a 100.00 gift card for say 70.00. Some places like ebay etc.

Most stores that have gift cards have people selling gift cards at "discount" for the same reason. The risk here is buying an empty gift card from an unscrupulous seller.

Another reason would be say that 50 dollar gift card to applebees your aunt gave you for christmas. you hate applebees, so now you have no christmas present. You sell the card for 35 dollars because the 35 is worth more to you than a night in a restaurant you dislike. see?

HD here is done with pellets for the season, they sold out and the girl said they have made the season change over and won't be getting more pellets in for this winter. Lowes still has some, Timber Heat, North American and Green Team, to which the first two are $3.98 a bag and GT are $6.99. I'm burning TH right now and they are doing fine, a little cleaner than NA, of which I still have a few bags of those too.

Tractor Supply still has their water damaged stock pile, good luck with that !
