Well I started my wood stockpile. I dont even have my stove install done yet. Drove by a house a couple streets over the other day and noticed a tree they had cut down. All the wood was tossed over the fence by the road.

I stopped by after work and he said it was all mine. Saved him a trip to the dump.

The bigger chunks are Russian olive. I've heard it's a real bear to split. So that should be interesting. The smaller stuff is globe willow. Neither wood is ideal, but free means it's good enough for me. Another great thing, it was already cut to stove length, just need to split now.

There is another guy down the street that also cut a tree down. I'll be stopping by his place tomorrow after work.

What a great score. Did the same thing...Before my stove was even installed I started scrounging. Had over 200 pallets in my yard cause I got them for free. Here a little and there a little, it all adds up...:)
ps...Call your Supervisor of your local highway department and ask him were they take all the trees they cut down for your town. Then ask if you could either go and help yourself or get on a list for them to drop them off in your yard. It will save them time just grinding it all up. I've been on our local list for years and every year I come home to a very nice surprise. Usually 2-3 face cords worth of silver maple or ash....Free of charge..

Hmm that's a great idea! I live over in Chili, EAB is destroying Ashes all over the place. Guess I will stop into the Town offices !

Willow is not real good firewood, but free is good......LOL Not familiar with olive.

russian olive smells terrible, so make sure you throw it on a hot fire and don't tell your neighbors you are burning it!

Free is the best cut split stack then burn it. Heat is heat!

Shoot I kinda thought it smelled good when I was splitting a few pieces. But then again it could smell very different when burning. And yes, I like free :)
