You know the feeling....first fire of the season. Not really that cold yet down here, but did some maintenance on the heater and couldn't wait. Replaced the insulating rope gasket thing on the door so its nice and tight now...

Hope old man winter doesn't poke you took hard this year. We had a green Christmas, pretty easy Jan / Feb, now into early April and tonight's forecast is -12 (-18 windchill). Be happy to send some of that your way ;). Spring isn't happening yet. Another roaring maple (uglies) fire tonight...

What are the 'burning'regions in Australia? I'm guessing mostly done in the south??

Its just starting there but it won't end here. Snow and mid 30s today. I kinda figured with the slow start to winter it would hang on longer in the spring. I had to mow the grass three times already and the second time I mowed there was an inch of snow the day before. I live at the base on the east side of the Appalachian mountains so snow and cold for this time of year is not that uncommon it just hasn't happened for a long time. I love this weather and hate summer so it doesn't matter to me if it gets warm or not but this going from 70s degrees to 30s degrees for highs in 24 hours is getting ridiculous not to mention putting a big dent in the wood pile and freezing all the fruit tree around here

Yes, you are correct, and I am in Victoria which is in the south. It gets very cold and occasionally snows at altitudes of 600-700m in my area. But there are big alpine areas further north also into NSW...as a rule of thumb, as soon as it drops below 12 degrees, i start the fire.

Do you get polar vortexes down there like we do?

not that I know of
You probably soon will. Heck, we haven't had them more than a couple of years, at least that's when we started to hear about them. Never heard of them before, must be a "global warming" thing :p

The last one killed the blooms off my one plum tree. Last year we got so many of them and it got so abnormally cold my whole orchard was affected.
