Combustion Blower Blade Removal/Harman Advance

I had the same problem with my XXV combustion motor blade. I ended up drilling out the set screw, and getting a new blade.

I read a post years ago where the guy heated the set screw then removed it. My recollection is that it was easy after that. My question is when reattaching how to guarantee it won't work free. I guess a little Loctite might do the trick.

They can be a biatch to get out. What ever you do be sure to put some never seize on the new set screw before installing. That way you won't have to deal with this next time

Heat. I had to replace my combustion blower (Accentra) and the set screw in the fan blade was frozen solid. I tried everything, and finally used heat (propane torch). That did the trick.

Afterwards, I used anti-seize compound on the threads of the set screw. It resists high temperatures, so is fine for the stove. In fact, I use it on pretty much any metal on metal fastener.

The only other alternative is to use an air cutter to cut the shaft of the impeller close to the motor shaft without damaging it. I made 3 cuts and then the impeller came off. In my case the motor and shaft was out of the stove but in the case of the Harman it is still in the stove so it is harder but it can still be done.
