High school buddy is taking down pines due to the pine beetle.

Lucky me .... there's another load ready to go, and 7 more trees to come down, all ear marked for little old me :) 20160420_180932.jpg 20160420_182444.jpg 20160420_182456.jpg

Wow, that's a lot of pine. I had two big pines taken down recently. The amount if wood was incredible. I've read that top covering is key. Congrats on the score

The pine here, when seasoned burns pretty quick (same up by you, I am sure).

I burn it when I'm home, I use it to set off less than primo hardwoods. It's an awesome tool to have in your arsenal ;)

Going back for more Saturday!!

This coming year will be my first using much pine at all. Whet do you normally give it for drying time?

Love having a stash of pine around. It's great for shoulder season when you need a quick, short fire to take the chill off but don't need it burning for hours. Also great to mix with suspect wood that might not be quite seasoned. I like setting a few pine splits on the bottom and topping with misfits and ends from the "chunks and uglies" pile.

I've found that if I get it split early in the spring/summer and stack it covered in full sun for the summer, it is usually plenty dry by burning season. So maybe 5 or 6 months. One year and it's dry as a bone. My experience...YMMV.

What Slayer said.

This stuff will be ready this winter. It's been in rounds (as shown) stacked in single rows for 2-3 months, I'll start splitting it this weekend.

Lots of free pine, boats, couches and TVs on Clist right now.

Pine gets a bad rap, but i love it for what it serves. I had a cord of dry pine this year that i used exclusively for shoulder season and kick starting cold starts. It did great. I will never snub pine for that reason. Also the chimney is very clean...who knew?
