Just learned how to post pictures and since my first post was successful here is another scrounge I found the other day. Any ideas? This scrounging thing is addicting and I didn't run out of wood this winter for the first time ever and want to make sure it never happens again!

Norway Maple. I can't tell from the picture if the grain is white throughout, or if it changes?

Ive cut about 15 Norways down in the last year. I dont think thats what it is. The bark is a bit different and the Norway ususlly has a brown line running through the middle.
 
Here is another pic which shows a couple little sprouts growing out of the bark if that helps anyone. Many pieces had these little sprouts on them. I have only ever had hard maple and this seems softer. Is Norway a soft maple? Was easy to split but was slighly stringy

Norway Maple is considered a soft maple, but I'm not 100% certain that's what you have.
 
It does look like maple, not sure if it's Norway or another kind.
 
Have you got branches from any sample ? If so, look for branching habit. If opposite it might be maple. If alternate it's not.
On your pic on #7 the emerging leaves appear to have entire leaf margin, which would really narrow the selection.
With light colored wood have you considered black gum (Nysa sylvatica) ?
 
Like my Western NY neighbor. It looks like Basswood to me Very white, hint of pink and lighter than any type of maple.
 
the leaves look like willow and they'll sprout on a cut log like that but it has been so long since I cut a willow down that I don't remember what the wood looks like.
