Not sure what this is. Doesn't seem very dense, also, note the red in the picture with the split.

BoxElder was my guess, but the leaf doesn't seem right.

The leaf Picture was taken from a separate tree, that looked identical to the wood in the pile. I may have got the wrong tree.

The bright red is a pretty good dead give away that it's box elder. The bark also fits.

Bark, heartwood, and leaves all indicate boxelder
