This would explain why I never really replied to those questions. I thought you were talking about the damper. Even then, the installer didn't know anything about the damper and Kozy said to leave it 1/2 open. So that's what we did.

I merged this with your other thread

Can you post a photo?

Yes I've read the manual. It's sitting next to me at the moment. Yeesh.

Kozy said regardless of the chart, leave it 1/2 open and play with it as need be. I'm not entirely comfortable playing with it without gathering more knowledge. That's why I'm here.

You don't have to reply to my threads if you don't want to. There's certainly lots of other folks here that could use your expertise.

The above setting is on the intake air.

you are saying there is another damper on the exhast?

Im sorry im just as frustrated and cornfused about this stove as your are.

Try opening the Damper on the exhaust just a 1/4 inch more and see if that helps.

I'm not sure how some of you get photos to post w/in the textbox. I'll just attach them.

photo 1: Shows the rear piping.
photo 2: shows this mysterious damper/handle...it's located just before the exhaust fan.
photo 3: show the burn pot after ONE burn at the lowest setting for less than 15 minutes.

Not sure
they might have added that

But I call tell from the photo you are not getting enough air and or that 90 deg in your vent with a direct vent install is giving you problems.
a 90 deg elbo in a run is = to having and extra 3 or more feet of horizontal pipe.

does it look like there is a rise in the horizontal pipe?

Open that damper a little and try it.
if it is better open it more.

There's no rise in the horizontal piping. :(

When you say open the damper, you mean that mystery one that kozy added, not the intake damper, right?

Thanks for your help.

As long as it is not going down hill
but the correct way is 1/4 inch per foot
so if 3 feet of horizontal then 3/4 difference from the top of that 90 to the end of your pipe in rise.

yes open the Exhaust damper a little
It would not hurt to tweek on the Air intake damper also as it is burning to get a more intense flame

I didn't read about the problem with the Olivia Pellet/Corn Stove until after we had purchased it.
So my husband and I read all the problems that occured after the fact. I was watching ours, and I noticed that the auger was dumping pellets at a fast rate and they seem to be piling up faster than they were burning. I mentioned this to my husband, and I reminded him of what we had read on here. He then turned the intake blower up farther and it solved the problem. One thing I think would be a benefit to this particular brand of stove was if there was an auger moter adjustment. (I think that's what it's called that pulls the pellets from the hopper) When you turn the stove to 1, the blower lowers itself, I guess it just didn't adjust high enough before fine tuning it. Thank God my husband is mechanically inclined and can fix just about anything. We've had ours for 4 days now and I love it. I especially love that the gas company won't be sucking us dry to heat our home. Next it will be an on demand electric water heater and we can say asta la vista to Dominion!!

I left work early and cleaned the stove. I thought I'd give an update to see what you thought.

I pulled out the center panel that exposes the chute and there was a TON of fly ash behind it.

I cleaned EVERYTHING.

Then in the hopper I did my best to sift out all the crush pellets/saw dust. THERE WAS A LOT. 1/2 an ice cream pail, at least. Is that normal? We've used it a good month.

I put everything back together and started it up at the lowest setting. We were told by Kozy that the 1 setting is a real lazy fire, so I thought that would be good to start with. Within 10 min or so it was burning, but the flames were HUGE. They never touch the top of the stove, even on the 5 setting. But tonight at the 1 setting, the flames were hitting the rods at the top (the heat exchange tubes?).

In fear of a repeat fire accident, I turned it off. My husband says he thought the burn pot was plenty full. I didn't think it was that bad. Even then, why did the pot fill up more than it should?

Esh...

Does your stove auto-ignite? If so, it's not uncommon for the burn pot to fill up with quite a few pellets when you are first starting it up (before the fire gets started), then you get a pretty big flame initially, then the pelets burn up and the flame should moderate down to a normal level. Did the flame go back down?
