Meandering through the Sandwich Heritage Museum. All the flora and fauna were labelled. Now I know what black locust looks like!

Mother natures " pressure treated" wood. I like to get it and let it sit for a while then knock the thick bark off. This is one of the few woods that you do not have to worry about rot with. As for burning I like to mix it with black birch and save it for the colder months. So Yes I do like my Black Locust !

Now that I know what it looks like, I'm seeing it all over the Cape! I'm hoping to find some in my new back yard. :)

Incredibly dense firewood - black locust used to be used for fence posts since it is so resistant to rot. One of the very best firewoods out there!

Even the stuff dead lying on the ground is usually still good for firewood. It is one of my favorite fire woods never have to worry about it rotting, lasts just about forever. Wait till you burn some you will love it!

It looks practically mythical in some respects. The trees seem to fail about as often as any other, so if you keep your eyes open you'll start to see more on the ground. ...and then in your stacks!

We use black locust often for fence post, they last virtually forever. The only down side to it is trying to drive fencing staples into it.
