Let the splitting season begin!

This is the season I try to NOT split lol. I have in Summer's past but fortunately I am ahead and don't have to when it's A-hole hot out. Then again I'm not in my 20s any more

Have to agree. I try and do all splitting in COOLER weather if possible.

That pin oak is good stuff. Give it 2 years and its money in the bank.

Splitting in hot weather can be really bad - although I wind up doing it every summer just because life gets in the way a lot of the rest of the year. Go slower and drink more and it can be done. Most of my splitting is done now unless I get more wood (which I probably will) but I still have about 6-8 cords to stack. Glad it dried out for you to get to yours! All this rain has really gotten in the way of doing a lot of things around here.

Going outside to split right now. Seems dumb but I'm in the shade. I'd probably do it another day but my shed is being delivered on Thursday and they need to drive thru that area to drop it.

I split about a 1/2 cord of spruce yesterday AM - In the shade, wow, the 'suck' button was on, not the 'easy' one.

No worries about the heat here. A high of 6C today and a low of 0C tonite. Wood stove is still chugging away for petes sake.

sure is a luxury to get the splitting done BEFORE summer - so as to get the extra drying season in.

I enjoy getting my sweat on and splitting when it's hot out. I guess it feels like I got more accomplished.

I got all my splitting done in January. Not sure why anybody would split now when here this week its 95 degrees and humid as soup.

I like splitting when it's hot out split and stacked for about five hours Sunday. I enjoy doing it when it's dry out. Makes everything much easier in my opinion wood is dryer, no mud to deal with. Plus love the workout in the heat!

I agree 95 degrees and humid is a bit much but I generally split when I take a tree down. If I cut when it's hot out I'm probably splitting that day or atleast within that week to get the tree and mess cleaned up

Also like others have said it's a great workout

You guys don't have air conditioning in your splitting sheds?

"Splitting season" for me is whenever I have enough bucked up wood to make it worth the time to haul out the splitter.

I knew I was forgetting something!

Man I normally avoid this time of the year. But I HAVE to get some bucked ash out of the woods. Now if only I could get the time to do it!

I split and stacked in serious heat last year in July-I was on a mission as I wanted to be able to use some of the wood last year. I drank a sh**load of ice water. I detoxified my body I think!

I work outside, I'm out in it all day every day. Average 13,000+ steps according to Fitbit. If I can avoid it, I do, but like I said I have done it out of necessity in past years. I have about 1/2 cord mixed red oak and mulberry rounds I might have to split and stack so it's out of sight for my sons graduation party next month, hoping for a cooler weekend day

That is usually how it works.

My time is limited so I split when I can. Hot, warm, cool, cold...does not matter. Have kiddos helping split, haul, stack...gets the job done.
Kids are a beautiful thing.

Yep, sometimes you just can't avoid splitting in hot weather, but I think 30°F is about perfect.
