Hi all,

I’ve been lurking here for a while researching wood inserts for our home. We finally decided on a Blaze King Sirroco 25 insert. It was originally going to be installed in the middle of August but the installer had an opening come up so next week it is. I want to get the most performance I can out of the insert, so I spent last night lining the fireplace with Roxul and cement board and starting on a block off plate. Hopefully the installer doesn’t mind - I understand that block off plates aren’t usually part of a common installation. I also ended up going with a 6” pre-insulated liner. I think the guy at the store thought I was nuts for wanting it insulated. The chimney is about 17.5 feet tall and is on the exterior of the house facing the prevailing wind direction.

I’ve been busy getting wood for the past few weeks, I currently have about 1 cord split and stacked. I have access to as many dead ash trees as I’ll need. They were cut down this spring and have been dead for a few years. I don’t have a moisture meter yet but I’ve checked them with my Fluke and they are around 9 M Ohm resistance which should be plenty dry.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and that this place is a wealth of information. I’ll be sure to post more on how the install goes.

Welcome and congratulations. Your investment in an insulated liner and block-off plate will pay off with a cleaner safer installation and more heat in the house where you want it. Keep us posted on that new baby and take some pics.

I think some pics after this install will give us wood stove fever - mid summer style!

It's a great heater. with properly seasoned wood it should heat your space perfectly.

All the best

Andrew

Hey Toasty,
I'm in West Michigan, we've had it pretty mild this winter but we had a few weeks a while back that was real cold.

The Sirroco has been running great,it does a great job heating our house.

Hi enj, what kind of burn times are you getting on low?

With a full load I've been getting 10-12 hour burns on low burning mostly ash and some cherry.

I've been running it lately getting around 6-8 hour burns between reloads.

That is great , thanks. I would really like that in my place. I'm tired of waking up to a cold stove (and house).

Thanks Ejn, it's been hard finding reviews on the Sirroco. I'm thinking about getting an insert for next winter. Right now I'm debating between the princess, the sorroco, or the large flush hybrid fyre.

I live in Northern MI and have been happy with the relatively mild winter thus far. I don't want to bet on low propane prices next year though. I'm really glad to get some input from another person in Michigan.

How much did your stove cost?

My insert ran me right around 3100, chimney and installation were on top of that, so right around 5000 total
From what I can tell reading through the forum you might get longer burns out of a Princess, but they stick way out onto the hearth. that wasn't an option for me, and my wife and I both like the cleaner look of a flush insert.

Similar to the times we get with our stove.
