Finally i am a year ahead of the game with another three or so cords of elm to split(should be fun i know).
Feels good!
Also my wife doesn't mind how all this splitting has transformed my 43 yr old physique :)

Looks good to boot. Good call on the physique. Without the wood, I would be a doughy mess

Lol thats bad!I have a massive pile of it drying in the center of my field.I'm gonna give it a go when the weather cools-i will report the results.Hopefully this does not involve any politicians,enemas-maybe the white russian lol

I dropped a really big elm by my camp..so I was just campfire wood for me. I tried to split it by hand and gave up really quickly. I piled it all as rounds and left it for 15 months.
Bought a splitter...and split it. The bark came right off the rounds. All of it had worms boring into the wood, even though it was in a field in the sun. The bark is thick and sucks up the moisture. It was borderline rotting...starting to get punky.
I'm the guy standing on the branch trying to tell my cousin what to do..who is clearly not listening and taking pictures.

I have a splitter so hopefully that makes matters better.Shoulda seen it when it was cut-water coming out of the stump like a leaking faucet.

I don't have any experience with elm so I cannot comment. I did split some pine that splattered every time you hit it.
Hate wearing hats, but I did while splitting that.

I bet it was horrible splitting with that garden ho and that potato fork. Lol

Good looking stack. Congrats on being a year out.
