I just checked and local oil prices are at $1.96 a gallon...at that price oil is a better deal than pellets right now...
If you can get pellets for $239 a ton, they are basically the same..
so then it becomes just a matter of if you enjoy the heat you get from a stove or baseboard...
how long will those low oil prices last, who knows but if they last most of the Winter the pellet dealers who refuse to acknowledge that oil is the better deal and adjust their prices accordingly to try and get people to switch back will be screwed!

People need to understand the difference between 'suppliers', and 'dealers'..
Most 'dealers' do not set the price of pellets based on what they can charge,
but rather by how much you have to sell them for to make a profit.
Dealers aren't stupid. They "get it", that oil is cheaper...
But they can't lose money trying to compete.
When the suppliers go up, usually the dealers go up...
and the inverse is true, at least for us, it is, it's the only way to stay close to the BBS.
They will always have an edge over a small guy selling a few thousand ton a year.
But there hasn't been many 'drops' in prices, from suppliers...
and when there is, it's maybe 5-7 bucks a ton...
but this notion that dealers gouge, or get rich on pellets, is just not reality.
And you can't compare 'dealers' with BBS... different animal entirely.

When you saw BBS selling stuff last spring for $199 or even less, they were losing money!
Dealers can't buy stuff for that... how can we sell it for that?
Those thinking that dealers pay $150, and charge $279 are dreamers...

many of us bought at lower prices for early spring buy.....
Oil price doesn't matter to those who love the constant heat of a pellet stove...
may cost me 100.00 more this year to use pellets than Oil..no biggie.
spend more than that for an Eagles football game on Sunday's...and that' money is gone at the end of the day.

They must have all sold. As of this morning anyway.
I saw
$359, 279, 239, 238
75 mile radius from us..

I never even saw any below $200 after last spring. I have seen individuals trying to get $10/bag (didn't even say what kind), $6/bag (GS), and I think I remember $5/bag for some Maine's Choice. Most other adds are from a dealer down in MA.

$275.00/Ton in Blowes of Hicksville. I saw about 20 ton on the shelves.
But, I have plenty left over so I need ZERO ton!

At what point can the dealers push back on the suppliers and say "hey, you need to lower your prices because us dealers are getting killed by the oil prices right now...if you don't lower the prices to competitive levels I'm not buying as much from you because I'll be stuck with them OR be forced to sell them at a significant loss next Spring"?

They let their wallets do the talking. When the dealer can't sell then he can't buy and the supplier won't get an order. Suppliers also have to compete and to make a profit. So long as there is competition, there should be no gouging.

The manufacturers are in the same game.
If they can't make a profit, what is the point?
There are so many people involved between the tree, and your stove,
there is so very little wiggle room.
You're talking about a product that is very expensive to get to your basement.

Look at some of the name brand outfits that are now gone...
Small pellet guys?
Having much luck finding Blazers? How about Okies?
If the money that people thought there was in pellets was there,
there would be a lot more choices! And dealers...

as you speak... The new Okanagans.......

Introducing Northern Warmth Wood Pellets
Okanagan wood pellets are now Northern Warmth Wood Pellets

There has been a change to the Okanagan brand of pellets. The parent company that distributed the Okanagan brand of wood pellets has closed its doors suddenly and has been taken over by another company doing business as Northern Warmth.

The Okanagan Douglas Firs (purple bag) and Golds (yellow bag) were previously delivered in bulk to New England, and will now be sold as the Northern Warmth brand. The Doug Fir will now be known as Northern Warmth Doug Fir. The Gold’s will now be called Northern Warmth Purely Pine. Northern Warmth Doug Fir and Northern Warmth Purely Pine are identical to the Okanagan wood pellets, with the new name on a new bag. Both the Northern Warmth Doug Fir and Northern Warmth Purely Pine are available at this time.

Okanagan manufactured the Platinum’s (red bag), which are not available any longer. Northern Warmth is bringing in another Spruce pellet from the West Coast of Canada, the area where the Plantinum’s came from. This pellet will go by the name Northern Warmth Super Spruce, and is comparable to the Okanagan Platinum’s, with the quality that our customers are used to from the Okanagan Platinum wood pellets. Availability is anticipated in the next couple of weeks, as of 8/20/16.

Wow, that's some complexe products matrix for very similar products! They should have taken a page from the late 90s Apple in simplifying things!

I think Farm and Home had them for 185 or 189 but the sale ended on Sunday here in Michigan. I live between Lansing and Flint and that was the price but the Owosso store had the American Wood Pellets made in Corunna Michigan because the plant is a block away. I bought 2 tons and I'll get one more if I can wrangle the sale price out of them. That will take care of me for the year. I've burned a few bags of these before and they were OK. Hope that still stands and I hope they burn as well as they did before.

$359, 279, 239, 238

These are all averaging between $3 to $4 dollars a bag for someone looking to stay at or under $200 a ton:

I'm confident they'll be more pellets at these price points as more folks "move" or have a "broken stove" or whatever reason is given as to why the pellets are being sold. I'm certainly not bemoaning the companies selling premium pellets with hardly any ash and lots of heat, but with oil projected to stay low all winter and the long range weather forecasts, there is no reason to rush to buy. Patience will be rewarded with some good deals on pellets this fall.

I noticed one was gone and two didn't say what kind of pellets. If they aren't saying, I' would bet they are the lower quality pellets, but could be wrong.

The Barefoot's in MA seems like a good deal. I've never burned them before so don't know first hand.

Barefoot's are a good pellet and that's a great price point. Have to move things around in the garage and maybe pick up a ton. Just read the long term forecast for this fall and early winter and it's projected that the east coat and northeast temperatures are supposed to be higher than normal and the northwest lower than normal. The longer it stays warm, the more folks will bail and use oil or gas and we'll see more deals on CL. I think I have enough for the winter but it puts one in a great position to wait things out and pounce on a private fire sale of pellets.

Actually the long range forecast for New England this winter is for a return to winter...you know, snow and actual cold temperatures...the kind of weather we usually get in the winter but were deprived of last year. Maybe the pellet suppliers have heard this and are standing pat but with oil well below $2 per gallon I think you'll see a lot of pellet dealers stuck with leftover pellets next spring because let's face it...why would people pay almost 1/3 more to heat with pellets?

I got the early buy on cubex for 239/ton which is about $30.00/ per ton less than last year. Dealer told me they were stuck with a bunch from last year,So they lowered their price for this year.
