Spruce Pointe pellets

I burned 20-25 bags of these last season. I got them from the local Ace Hardware for about $6.50/bag. Since I was trying a bunch of different brands I was taking notes. Here's the summary: Lower heat output than expected for a softwood pellet (please note, I did not burn any other softwoods I just assumed they'd be noticeably hotter than the other stuff I was burning... they weren't). Ash is fluffy and generally lower than other pellets (BBS brands); ash cake is generally soft. Left a black mark on the burn pot, maybe a byproduct of sappier wood? It came off with scraping. Nice pine-y smell! I found I could lower the burn settings on my Englander to 3-5-1 with these pellets.

For the price you listed, I think they'd be a good pellet. At the price I was buying them for (about $325/ton) I felt the better BBS brands were more economical (Stove Chow, Fireside Ultra, Nature's Own - all Energex brands, I believe).

While getting my propane tank (for a grill) refilled at the Ace last month, I saw they had about 20 tons stacked up from last winter. Maybe the price will be lower this winter...

I'm going to try to seek out other, known-good brands of softwoods this winter to compare.

Didn't burn as hot as expected with the stove maxed out for a few hours... Was able to "idle" the stove, if you will, at lower settings than hardwood pellets.

I have always found them to be a superlative burning pellet. For 259 a ton, that's a great price too. They are akin to other softwood blends I've burned, like Okanagans, La Cretes- they all seem to burn about the same, hot and clean. I'd highly recommend them.

I've been burning them for the last couple of years ... good pellet! As stovelark mentioned, comparable to the other softwood blends. Wish I could get that price

Same here LG on the price ughhhh We spend about 315 per ton here (378 per 1.2 ton as it ships). But it burns good and clean. Take care.

I burned the Spruce Point pellets last season. Although I only burned about 1/2 ton, because of the weather, and oil prices. I like them, and find them just a little better than the La Crete.
