Hi all, I've been reading the boards for a few weeks now and I'm learning a lot. I had the day off and I stopped by the local shop and honestly I feel the prices were very high, there isn't much competition around here in New Jersey. I was told that for a Quadra fire 5100 installed would be around 5200.00 plus price of permits. I walked out of there a little shocked, the company only sells Quadra fires and Jotul brands. I live in a cape cod house so I'm looking at 20'-25' of liner. I'm thinking of just buying an insert online as well as everything else I need and doing it myself. I have pretty much zero experience with fireplaces. Any thoughts or feedback on this?

I would not do it myself unless I was 100% sure I could do it correctly. Too many concerns about safety for me personally.
 
Thank You for the responses! I will do a layout and also post some pictures. I have two cords of oak that has been dried out for over two years. I have one cord of wild cherry that was cut down three weeks ago and split it this week.

Hopefully this works, I'm not really the best on the computer. I will post up pictures and measurements tomorrow of the fireplace tomorrow evening.

$5200 is not a bad price depending on the liner used and if they are insulating or not. If they don't plan on insulating I would go elsewhere.
 
Were in NJ are you from?
 
Welcome stick&stones. Do it yourself. Watch all the videos you can , ask lots of questions, get couple of your buddies and take your time. It is definitely possible. And one more thing , buy Blaze King and call it a day :)

That depends on allot of things. They are not all easy ones to install.

It's not a rocket science but if you don't know what you are doing you may jeopardize your safety. I did it myself with a help of three busies. Wasn't bad at all. My dealer wanted $600 for a basic install. That means no insulation no block off plate. I felt it was a robbery so I decided to do it myself.
 
Check these guys out http://firecomfort.com/ I bought my bk princess from them a few years ago, there show room is awesome and the staff is very knowledgeable, there located in Goshen NY just past Warwick, maybe an hour from you house and they carry many different brands
