Went to the woods to scrounge and found 3 lbs of black trumpet and chanterelle mushrooms. Stopped at the store to get some things to help cook them and found wood.

Play the lottery!

Dang. Hard to beat that...

That is pretty a great find and great score! Awesome!

Shoot.....all that's left is a "bank error in your favor". Nice double score.

I called a neighbor that's been really good to me on the wood. I took a 4x8 trailer's worth, 2' deep of rounds. He filled his pickup and trailer, leaving the big pile for anyone else.

As for the shrooms, it got a little better today. Traded a hamburger sized pile of chanterelles for the same size of he. Of the woods from the 10 pounder a colleague found this weekend. I'm headed to a fine dinner tonight with other neighbors and will give them a nice pile of shrooms for them to enjoy later.

Part of me thought about drying/freezing, but it seems kharmicly better to share the fresh wealth!

Like I say, going in the woods is never a bad decision. Food and fuel - can't beat that!

It's always better to share the wealth ... I'm sure those friends will remember and do likewise in the future!

Work took me near the shrooms. 2 hours in the woods and voila! 6.5 lbs chanterelles and 1.5 lbs black trumpets! Gave a bunch away, put some in the fridge for me, then sauted the pile seen here, vacuum sealed and in the freezer for winter bliss! Needless to say, the house smells awesome now!

How does one learn how to differentiate the good from the bad ones?

Some are easy. The two I've mentioned are at the top of the easy list. In the first picture of the shrooms is one that is not as obvious... A "yellow foot." I know very little and was taught what little I know by someone who knows their stuff. The biggest lessons... 1) check every shroom carefully and 2) when in doubt, throw it out.

Check around your area. There may be a club or classes at a community college nearby. Get to know folks that know more than you, learn a few shrooms at a time, and enjoy the woods!

Went down to the corner yard to start putting my garden to bed for the winter ... pulling dahlia and peruvian daffodil bulbs. Within the last few days, had some mushrooms pop up but not sure if they are the shaggy mane (Coprinus comatus) or the smooth capped Coprinus atramentarius which can make you sick. Not taking any chances but they are there every year so curious...

Yep... It's red pine. It was the easiest load I could dream of and I wanted to be there to help my friend load up. It'll give me a nice shoulder burn next year.

Nice scores!! Never tried black trumpets. Have a huge flush if yellow boltes in the yard, but they can be tricky.
