So the idea is to put the heat source at seated eye-level? What's the reason for not wanting flames? Where is the wood stove going to sit? You're going to shovel hot coals from the stove to the.masonry chamber?

you need radiant heat, as convective heat blows away in the slightest breeze . I'm skeptical of the ability of electric fans to push any significant amount of heat towards the attendees.

a rocket mass heater has a lot of desirable properties, but the mass is a detriment when you want quick heat for a party, and you don't need the long heat storage of several hundred pounds of masonry mass. Also cob degrades in the elements without a roof.

I'm currently leaning some sort of self-contained rocket heater in a steel drum. If I can pack a couple hundred pounds of firebrick in the barrel it may capture a lot of the exhaust heat. And I would be able to roll it into covered storage with a hand truck when not in use
