I just picked up this Fisher Insert and am ready to install it in my house. This is the older style with a chain to operate the damper. I noticed the previous owner put this 6" insert boot over the original 8" opening for their application. I removed it for my application as I have an 8" stainless steel liner in my chimney. The question I have is wondering how to attach my liner to the stove as the rod for the damper runs thru the top of the 8" opening. Is there an 8" insert boot that is missing from the stove?

This inserts were meant to be directly installed into the firebox without a liner attached. Some call it a "slammer" installation. If you search, there are several "adapters" that can be attached to the top of the stove. However, if you intend to keep the dampener, some modification will be required. I have the same Fisher insert and just removed the dampener and welded a ring around the opening that I could attach the liner to.

Just get an 8" appliance adapter and cut notches out of it to allow that bar to go through it. Then slide it into the stove and attach it with some angle brackets. Dont give up that damper it does help keep a little more of the heat in the stove. They will never be all that efficient but why make it worse.

I want a Fisher insert for my house, the shop has a Grandpa and a XL.:)
