Just got my Summers Heat 55-SHP10. Some thoughts and issues

Ordered it yesterday from Lowes. Arrived this morning. Faster than expected at a great price. $598 + the Guv. $99 for the Simpson vent kit, $59 for delivery.

Has some issues. The paint on the top is marred. One of the metal straps that held it to the pallet was loose. Some of the paint is scraped. Maybe I can get Englander to send me a can of paint. A bigger issue is that the back panel does not fit. Partially blocks the included outside air kit. Picture below.

Kudos to them for Service video. A lot of info...

Got the back panel to fit. Kind of. It is not square with the stove and overlaps a bit. The knob has to latch from the top side to close properly. Got this from the included video. The video and user manual came in the pellet hopper. You need to twist the hopper door hold downs to open it. Is the metal plate in the burn chamber supposed to lean towards the front of the stove? Mine does.

Yes, the top of the plate should lean forward. Also, if there is a cut out area on the plate, it should go towards the top.
 
England Stove works sells cans of paint for the stove - you can purchase it right off their website. I seem to recall that Home Depot had black stove paint right there in their seasonal heating area, too. Not sure if it's the same stuff that ESW sells or not, though.
 
Not sure that I should be the one buying paint at this point. It came out of the box that way. I bought the stove two days ago. It's clearly a packaging defect. The loose metal band allowed the stove to pivot on the pallet causing the tight one to abrade the surface.

I am more concerned about the back panel not fitting. I will be checking the stove for 'square' in a few days.

Does anyone think that I should take this up in email with ESW? We work the same hours.

Sure. If you have a product defect, tell'em about it. An eight dollar can of paint isn't worth the hassle but misfitting panels are. Don't email it, give'em a call.
 
Thanks Bart. I need to email ESW because we work the same hours. My job is very no-nonsense when it comes to schedule. A call center...

Anybody have an email for Mike Holton or for anyone at ESW. Their web site is phone only. Seems odd.
 
That truly looks like they have a lack of quality control at the manufacturer. Sad thing is I just bought two of the brand I have to go out and check them.
 
Installed mine Saturday Yeah!. I am saying goodbye to my Monitor p441 and nearly $4.00 K-1 Kerosene prices, or at least the Monitor will be a seldom used backup. 598.00 Lowes. Chimney was 99.00, bother in laws' labor 00.00,not calling the oil company = priceless.
 
Hyip1206 - Nice! Hope you enjoy the warmth! It really adds great value to the project when you can do the labor yourself or get some help and do it for free. The guys around my neck of the woods wanted upwards of $600 to install a $3000 pellet stove. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
 
It's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This forum also has so many knowledgable people it is a real blessing also. The price I paid for the stove is slightly more than I paid for 150 gal of Kereosene last month. It's nice to have as a back up but who can afford to heat with that stuff?

You've probably been reading the maintenance tips and pellet loading tips on the board already, but just to reiterate - A little routine maintenance and watching what goes in the hopper goes a long way to low-stress pellet stove ownership.
 
Yes I have. I can't wait to get home from work everynight so I can clean my stove, reload and refire. Kinda like the new toy thing. I was over joyed to see that Mr. Holton who works for Englander, is right here on the boards to answer questions. It's like I have the product and then you have people to ask question about it, and best of all you are saving money but not burning oil or propane.
It was like one thread I read about the pellets hanging up in the hopper so the stove goes out. Mr Holton wrote to clean the side with a scotchbrite pad to allow the pellets to fully slide down the sides of the hopper. Sure enough happened to me, took his advise, works great now. I am very happy.

Thank you for the threadjack. Reminds me of a poker game several years ago in Vegas when I asked who the shills (house players) were and the rest of the table raised their hands. Was a pretty good table. Wish I could say that for every post in this thread after yours.

NO!!!!! thats just for the 25-pdv , not the pdvc , the 25-pdvc should hang flat up against the back wall and hook to the ledge in the top back. the 25-pdv (larger stove) has a different baffle described above.
