I have posted elsewhere some results I've had with various pellets I have tried. Energex pellets came highly recommended & they do produce very good heat, however, they build up in the burn pot in about a third the time any other brand I have tried do. I bought 8 bags off a well wrapped pallet that was outdoors. As soon as I bought them, I burned 4 bags & discovered this problem. I let the other bags sit inside for 3 weeks. yesterday morning I started burning them again. I have the draft pulled out (enviro empress) about half to three quarters of an inch further than I need to with Pennington pellets & from four o'clock yesterday afternoon to 11:00 this morning the burn pot has filled to the top & I am starting to get black soot. The stove was running at level 4 (of 5 levels) in high low mode & give the amount of pellets in the burn pot, I'd guess it ran low for about half the night. All of the other pellets will go at least two days with no (black) soot & no worries about the burn pot overflowing.

To those who have used these pellets: do you find it normal to need to pull the draft way out to burn them? Also, these pellet are very dark - all of the other softwood pellets I have burned are light in color. The energex are considerably darker than even the hardwood brand I have tried. Is this their normal color, or might they be very wet?

Anybody from the manufacturer out there?

This concerns me, as I'd like to buy 4 - 5 tons of pellets for next season in advance, but given the variance in the way they burn, it seems it would be very risky to buy an unfamiliar brand.

I have a new Harman XXV (NOV 07) and have burned one ton of Energex hardwood premium pellets.
They are very dark in color and seems to produce clinkers and a good amount of ash. Also, more scraping of
the burnpot is necessary to get good efficiency, To date I have burned Energex, LG Granules, Lignetix, and
Freedom fuel. I like the LG and Freedom fuels the best.

I purchased 2 tons of Energex on the recommendation of my dealer and I am not impressed. The ash build up is unbelievable not to mention they are extremely dusty. I was at Home Depot and purchased 20 bags of the Fireside Ultra. This pellet burns as hot if not hotter and the ash build up seems to be half of the Energex. I can't see me buying Energex again any time soon.

This is my first season with a pellet stove and I bought 2 tons of the Energex pellets when I bought my stove, so I really have nothing to compare them to. I will say that they are very dusty and there is a fair amount of ash from them. Again, I have only burned these, but I am about 10 days from the last bag and I'm going to buy a ton of a different brand to finish the season off. Let the comparison begin...

When I was setting my stove up I need some extra pipe and I had to a local stove dealer to get it. While I was there I notice they sold the Energex Pellets, so I picked up 4 bags to try out. They seemed to burn very well, maybe a bit of ash but no clinkers. After a bit I went back and bought 10 more bags, these were on a different pallet, and this group of 10 bags was disappointing, more ash, clinkers but not that hard, and burn temps were down 20* for the same setting. So maybe and older bunch and sucked up more moister ??

Energex gets their sawdust to make pellets anywhere they can. I was working in York, PA on a loader used by a casket making company. A tractor trailer showeed up to get a load of sawdust. Talked to the driver and he said the company he works for hauls for energex all the time. They get sawdust from anywhere and everywhere to keep the mill runnig. So batch quality will differ greatly depending on the sawdust. That being said, I burnt two ton this year and have to agree with most about the ash and clinkers. Probably won't use those again. I'm trying Turman pellets now, made in Galax, VA by a hardwod flooring co. We'll see how they burn.

I have run a ton through my Harman P-68 and have been less than impressed. I too have found more ash build-up, more clinkers and a lot more fines in the bags. The bad part is that I have 3 ton still to burn. Next time I will listen to the people on here when they say to buy a few bags and run them through the stove before committing to your ton.

I used some energex last year, better than the ones I have now, that's why I bought them. Probably won't again. Will stick with Wood Pellet Co. or maybe these new Turman wood pellets.

I have burned about half a ton of the Energex and found that they have a lot of ash and a good deal of build up of clinkers not hard and easy to scrape. I have also burned about a ton of Greenway and found them to be very dusty with a lot of fins and tend to give me clinkers that are very compacted and hard. I picked up 4 bags of Fireside Ultras to test and like them, they burn with a lot less ash and so far no clinkers after 2 bags.

I have had the same isses with my Breckwell, burnpot fills up.

I just started on my second ton. The difference has been night and day between the two. Both tons were purchased at the same time from the same retailer, but their color is vastly different. This ton has a real light color to it and also there are practically no fines in the bags. They don't generate near as much ash as the previous ton and seem to burn a little hotter as well. I have two more ton that probably won't get burnt this year, so I won't know what is going to be my overall experience with Energex.

This is one of the brands I have been using this season and even though they
burn very dirty and create tons of clinkers compared to the others, they do
burn hot and keep my house nice and toasty.

I have had to clean the glass more often with these, but when my gas bill
is only the minimum charge for the past three months, I will not complain.

Erh, um, uh, I hate to tell you, but Fireside Ultra pellets are made by Energex.

That's interesting, I wonder why the seemly big difference? And I only thought they had two brands, Energex, and Juntata.

Well if Fireside Ultra are made by Energex the difference between the two pellets are night and day!

I've been using Somerset Wood Fuel Premium Pellets from Somerset, KY. Due to technical problems, my auger was running continuously, but as long as I had the exhaust fan turned up and the intake air all th way open, the burn pot never filled up. (It took a little tinkering, but it ran fine.)

very little ash, no clinkers from 2 bags burned this way

I have a countryside insert that we purchased in 2007. our first 40 bags were a hardwood pellet which burned very hot , low ash and no clinkers. When we burn all the hardwood pellets we purchased the Energex pellets because thay came highly recommended by my brother who has a Whitfield freestanding stove. The Energex are terrible.. they create to much ash and they leave clinkers... I will never buy these again..I just purchsed 2 bags of Greed Team from Lowes..
