I have an Empress FS unit and I have had it for a few weeks now. I have burned 5 bags of pellets.

When I have it on high I get a smell in the house...it is not overpowering....it's not smoke.

It smells like a metal type of smell.

I do not smell it on low to medium....only on high.

Any ideas???? is it just the new stove smell?? is it the galvanized flu smelling??

I do not smell the smell outside at the exhaust, or in front of the unit where the heat blows out.

Thanks.

My guess....but I am no expert.....is it sounds like you are still getting the new stove smell and as you accelerate to high, the heat is higher and its still burning it off. My 4 cents worth for ya

I think it is the new stove smell as well. It will take care of itself as the stove gets used more. I am into my 3rd season with the Empress FS stove. The problem you mention will gradually disappear the more that you use the stove. If the smell that you mention has the least bit of smoke to it you might want to check or reseal the joints on the direct vent with RTV silicone.

Sounds like the high temp paint is curing and any machine oil on the stove parts is burning off. Normal but not a pleasant smell. I'd suggest that you crank the stove up to a pretty high setting, open a window or two to vent, and let it burn for an hour just to get rid of the smell for good. If by some chance that doesn't get rid of the smell then you might need to check the stove and the vent again for leaks.
