Why? Did you poke a hole in it with the poker?
 
Like I always say... if your genius idea was going to work so much better don't you think the engineers would have figured that out already?
 
No I wont remove it, I am happy to hear it is a sound design.

It is just that it seams somehow my ceramic board got a couple of gouges in it just down inside the 6 inch opening where the pipe goes, I saw this after I got it home from the Home Depot.
Will it affect it's life span?

Mike, I'm curious. How do you guys, as manufacturers, handle situations where the owner changes your stove in an attempt to improve it in the field. Does that void the warranty? Do you take it as a serious potential for poor performance, extreme over firing, or even carbon monoxide poisening? How big of a deal is it if a user re-engineers your stove in the field?
