Dead trees for firewood?

Yeah cutting dead trees is dangerous mostly because limbs or tops can break off and hit you. One thing I do to minimize the risk is to clear trip hazards away from around the tree and look up when I'm cutting. Theory being that hopefully I'll have some reacting time to mitigate the consequences of any falling limbs raining down at me.

What's makes them worthwhile for me for me is the wood is prime ...something I can harvest in the winter and throw right into the stove.

Just remember that it mayl still take a year to dry out. I've tried to burn wood that has been standing, and it's a log way from dry.
