Jim, your old Timberline stove sounds like my old pre 1980 Scandia 315 (VT old Defiant clone). If I was to perhaps upgrade, I’m curious what do you do with your old one. How would I get rid of a 400 pound wood stove that’s in the basement. Does a stove shop deliver the new stove and remove the old one. ??

Gary, When I bought my new stove, the shop was going to charge me to take it out of the house. My brother in law was going to take the stove out and install it in his shop. When they delivered the new stove, I decided to ask the guys to take out. It was a well spent $30 because sometimes my brother in law is pokey. The old stove is still sitting covered outside. I cleaned my liner this weekend for the first time this year and got very little creosote dust. With the old stove into the clay flue, I would have gotten almost a five gallon pail full. What a difference. Have fun choosing a new stove and hope you enjoy it as well as I enjoy mine.

Gary, Almost forgot to say that if you can't sell the old stove, my brother may be interested in taking it away.

If you really just want to get rid of it, post it in Craig's list for somewhere between $0-50 and see what happens.
 
Thanks for the info. I appreciate the it. I’m still in the early thinking stages of this stuff as I only burn on weekends and still enjoy the stove. I will however make a visit to the Stove Store in Hampton and see what they got. Plus I’ll see if they sell an electronic type stovepipe thermometer, like my magnet one I currently use, but with some electronics in it to send the signal from the stove in the basement up to my kitchen displaying the temperature on a remote receiver. Kind of like the wireless indoor/outdoor thermometers.
