Triaxle of logs

Its on Hughes rd 1/2 mile south of M59. you probably go right past hughes rd on your way to fenton. I live south of golf club rd off hughes on lake chemung. Its a little over a mile to the farm. we have aprivate airstrip there and my folks live there.

Small world. I know exactly where that's at. Heh, I always wondered about that place. Not many folks have their own runway.

Hey, when you get ahold of Muma, please post your findings. I'm curious if the price has gone up.

I called and he said 1700 green or 1800 seasoned (seasoned Ya right). I said I cant take em till june, so it might be more because of fuel, but that works out to 60 face cord or $28 dollars a face, not bad.

Yeah, by "seasoned" he means it's been cut for two or three years. It's still needs to be split and stacked, BUT, I will say that the wood has less moisture than a fresh cut log. I've had no problem splitting it in April/May and having it ready by November.

If you don't need the wood for this fall/winter then why pay extra for the "seasoned" stuff.

If you buy his stuff I don't think you'll be disappointed. There are many around here that use him. And the wood has a good variety of sizes but nothing too big.

Oh, and it's all oak...nothing but oak. So yeah, $28/face plus your labor but like I said, it's easy cutting off the stack like that.

Here's a photo of what Chris Muma delivers. I have been doing this since 1987 and it woks out great.

He must have one large customer base just to keep tires on that thing, and fuel in it for all of that weight!

I must say that I am very impressed.

HA, I was scrounging through my stuff and could not find a pic. I'm glad you posted it. That is the beast. I believe they come from Gladwing and yes, he's got a huge customer base. I know three people alone that use him and I see that truck all over the place.

It truly is a thing of beauty to see that guy unloading those. And, I might add, that guy could do brain surgery with that cherry picker. he's damn good.

Its about 20 cords. 8ft high x 8ft wide by 40ft long.

I had a little problem when he delivered this load. If you look at the picture at his back wheels on the truck they are sunk in the ground about 8 inches. This was delivered in January of 2007. I figured the ground was good and frozen by then but I was wrong. I was real concerned about him getting out since all his wheels were spinning. But being the pro that he was, he used the hydraulic stabilizers to lift the truck off the ground and put logs under the tires for traction. After about 30 minutes of work he was moving again. Next time I will get the load in the middle of summer when its good and dry.

Will he deliver to springfield ma? Nice easy bucking and splitting with that stuff! That is hotter than Spitzer's call girl!

Hanko, There is a guy on craiglist offering log loads of ash/oak mixed, he is at I-75 and exit #160. he quoted me $1500 for 15 cord of $2800 for 30 cord. He is 140 mile away from me so you should be able to get it cheaper. I have a name and email address if you want. Also I believe the frost laws are on so you might have to wait to get that big a load

That extreme machine reminds me of a logging company around here that has an all-wheel drive tractor with a TRIPLE trailer setup. Only uses on a private road. And no, he doesn't supply firewood to home owners.

That snow is what got ya. You can't get any frost in the ground with a layer of snow. I got my last load delivered in May 2005 and there were no issues. As for right now I don't believe he can haul as frost laws are in effect and they won't come off for some undetermined time (it depends on what ma nature has cookin').

If you don't have access to a stand of woods or cannot handle the labor it is truly the easiest way to cut your own firewood. Just make sure you take the time to tumble the stack every now and then so it doesn't come down on you. The logs are not big enough to break you like a worm but it does hurt....from what I remember :sick:

This load will last a long time for me. I am now burning the last few logs of a load that I bought in the summer of 99. With the wood being that old it was starting to get kind light but not too bad. I just used these pieces to start the fire and mix it with the newer stuff. I didn't waste any of it. Usually I burn about 2.5 cords a year but lately I've been burning more in my shop. This truck load should last about 7 years. So $1700 for a load divided by 7 years = $243 year. Not too bad and I don't have to scrounge for wood.

wow, I wish I could get away with only burning 2.5 cords per year! I burn 2x that easily. I am on a mission this year to get one year ahead.

well guys i got bad news today
my friend who is a tree guy was gonna bring me 60 cubic yds of wood he claims it woulda been 7-8 cords or more depending on the size
for 300
he came and asked me if i cared about my yard....oh no/... he said the weight of the truck would destroy my yard and wouldn't reccomend it
he thought he could go in my neighbors driveway but then said the boom might not reach the spot plus there are trees he would have to navigate around.. he said he could drop a tree for free but wasn't sure if the boom would work((((( so now i am gonna split it with my friend but i have to haul it from his house which is about a twenty minute trip i will be doing it about 6 xs with rounds for 3.5-4 cords ... now i am gonna have the other guy bring it csd for 115 for green
anyways ..... 4 cd at 115 =460
3.5-4 cd =150
GAS = 75
TOTAL 685 =8 CD
VS 3500 FOR OIL
HMMMMMMMMMM

Is the issue with the yard only now with the mud/tawing, or is it something that will always be a problem? If you have the room - I'd get the "mix" stacked and put away - it should be fairly good for next year. If the yard is OK - if still available - I'd definately get a load from your friend at that price, and build up some more during the summer. After that - you should be one step ahead and not have to worry about a window when he could drop the logs.

Will he run a load a little farther North? - that really is a good deal - take it while you can.

i am not sure he just said that the weight of a huge truck plus the wood .. wood tear it up... its not that big .. but he said he put it close to the street but i don't wanna leave it there ... the neighbors would groan and it would be a enough of a distance to cut haul then split
they are doing a big job in northhampton so i don't think you would be outta the way

OMG! my other wood guy called and said he can't do 115 he has to get 150! because of fuel for him to drive here...but mostly because the wood has gone up so much from the log company he buys it from
i won't be using him .. i laughed because i think he is not being completely honest.... funny how he is paying 750 for a load now and i can get it less?????? and he sells almost 2000 cd a year?? hmm he didn't wanna drive out here with such a high demand i am sure of it

funny though this guy went up 100 and claims he gave me a break by cutting off 50 but someone else will drive from the same area no 50 surcharge and 10 bucks less a cd... if this guy was more genuine i still woulda gotit from him but no way now!!

Are they doing the rt 66 clearing? - lot's of nice trees there - If they are looking for a place to dump some wood - not far at all.

As far as the other guy - I'd agree - I don't think I would be buying from them - depending on when you got the $115 price, and then to (basicaly say, my words) "I've got to pay more... because my supplier raised prices" is not an excuse - they should honor their quote - it's not like there was an unexpected increase in price for the wood because of fuel/demand in recent weeks or even months for that matter.
